Holiday networking events can be stressful. We all have so much going on around the holidays, yet we feel compelled to attend events.? How about we change our mindset from being compelled to being enthusiastic and embracing the season?
The holidays kick off earlier and earlier each year, leaving us somewhat frazzled. Here are five things we can do to prepare for holiday networking.
Choose Your Events
Perhaps one of the most significant stressors is trying to attend too many functions and not accounting for the time in our calendars. With exciting and informational events available to us through the Chamber and with Chamber members, it is important that we schedule time on our calendars to attend them…comfortably.
When you see an event you would like to attend, open your calendar and book it! Leave yourself travel time on both ends, and you will see how stress-free holiday networking can be!
What is your story?
Often referred to as your ‘elevator pitch,’ being comfortable and genuine when asked who you are and what you do will make you memorable. We have all listened to people read their resumes, but do you remember them? Holiday time is relaxing and celebrating the end of one year and the anticipation of the next. During the holidays, be yourself and let the conversation flow. (But be sure to bring enough business cards!)

Mindful donations (shop ahead)
When attending an event asking for donations, take some time and research to understand who the organizations are and what they need. Each is unique, so take your time and be mindful of their requests. It helps these organizations more than you know!

Grab a Friend
Ahhh, walking into an event or ballroom with a friend takes away the stress of walking in alone. In a friend group, you may know different people and your network expands just like that! Keep an eye out for people standing alone.? Walk up to them and introduce yourself; you may be surprised.
Relax and Enjoy Yourself
Armed with these few tips, you are ready to face the holiday events and networking. Relax now and remember that networking often takes place when you try the least and learn the most. Happy Holidays.
