The 5 Things Successful Entrepreneurs Have in Common
If we meet and you tell me that you are from Cincinnati or Charleston or Miami or Seattle, I will ask you where exactly you are from. This isn’t because I was an army brat or lived in 12 cities before age 10; it is because I was a competitive athlete and one of the benefits of my unusual childhood was playing one-week tennis tournaments in many different cities. Along the way I collected memories and friends from all over the country.?
This love for new cities trailed me to today; when I arrive at a new place for the first time and walk down Main Street, I still get a rush discovering the new restaurants and shops that line the center of the town. This appreciation has translated into a passion for seeing small businesses thrive. As an entrepreneur myself, I have a kinship with other business owners who put their sweat and tears and energy into seeing their vision thrive.?
In my role as CEO of Park Place Payments, I have worked with thousands of business owners and have identified 5 features common to most successful entrepreneurs:
1. They keep their eyes on the prize.
If they sell burgers, they don’t add Chinese food to the menu. If they specialize in carpets, they don’t sell candles.?
2. They hire positive people.
One negative employee can spoil the whole bunch. From the front lines to behind the scenes, a great attitude can overcome a host of weaknesses.?

3. They believe their customers are always the priority.
Many business owners say it, but the best ones behave like they mean it.
4. They pay attention to their brand.
When it comes to what their brand stands for, they are consistent and thoughtful.
5. They are resilient.
One fall doesn’t keep them down. The best entrepreneurs know that taking punches is inevitable. The champions prepare for hits and rise above the unexpected.?
The best thing about this list is that all of these skills are learnable - they are a matter of focus, and if you want to achieve as an entrepreneur, they are absolutely within your reach.?
