5 Things Recruiters Hate About You

5 Things Recruiters Hate About You

Haha... ok... bit harsh isn't it. But it is kinda true.

There are definitely some things recruiters see job seekers do on a daily basis which make them want to quit and become Estate Agents.......

Let's explore the top 5 stupid things you're doing.

1- Your CV is in reverse chronological order.

As recruiters, in the workshop, our brains are programmed to read CVs from most recent job to the oldest. Anything else confuses us. We don't understand it.

But seriously, your most recent experience is most relevant to us. Have that first.

Any other way is just weird. No matter how good a candidate you are. REJECTED

2- You reach out to the corporate recruiter asking THEM what jobs are suitable for YOU.

No no no no no no no no no

It doesn't work like that.

It makes you come across as a bit of a princess, to be honest. A bit like you've had people do things for you your whole life.

"Excuse me, recruiter....read my CV and search through all your open roles and come back to me and tell me which you would want to consider me for, here's my CV"

I mean...what? Are you for real?

A recruiter's job is to find a person for a job. Not a job for a person. REJECTED

"Daddy, daddy, the mean Recruiter rejected me"

3- Ghosting

Believe it or not, ghosting happens both ways!

If you are no longer interested in an opportunity or have accepted another role elsewhere, be honest and let the recruiter know!

It's cool, we won't take it personally. We may be a little disappointed sure, but that beats days or weeks of trying to get a hold of you only to see your LinkedIn profile update one day that you're in a new job.

We are like elephants. We will never EVER forgive you again. REJECTED.

4- Only being willing to take calls out of business hours

Why are you being so difficult? Are you telling me you can't walk to get a coffee and take 10 minutes to have a quick conversation?

Yeah sure, in recruitment we are used to working out of hours, but imagine if every candidate we speak to was as difficult as you.

They only spoke to us after 6pm or before 8am.

What would our days look like.

If you want a job make time to speak. If only for 15 minutes.

If you continually make it difficult for us to connect and talk.... REJECTED.

5- You apply for every role we have advertised.

Why? Why have you applied for the Finance Director role, and also the PR Assistant vacancy?

Don't apply for multiple jobs with the same company.

2/3 is probably ok.

But over that, apply to the 2/3 you are most suited to and when you get the chance to speak to the recruiter, talk about the other roles you think could suit you.

Many systems allow us to see how many jobs you have applied to with us.

It's not a numbers game.

You know what's next.

REJECTED!

Well said...... the volume applicants are the ones that make my eye twitch. I had one candidate apply for 15 positions within the same day with the same resume and cover letter! Didn't even bother changing their cover letter to share how their experience would be applicable to the role.

The volume applicant. The best way to demonstrate your lack of attention to detail, or limited genuine interest in our role, is to submit and application at Company A that talks about why you’re interested in a job with Company B
