Although I am not a Netflix or prime addict or a regular TV viewer, I am quite a fan of this one, from the moment I saw the first episode till date, I have been watching the series quite regularly and totally loving it. Suits is an American legal drama television series created and written by Aaron Korsh released on Netflix in 2017. Some of the things it clearly brings out are style, attitude, strong personality, vulnerabilities and corporate crime for sure. If you are a Netflix follower you must have not missed watching Harvey Specter slay at the courtroom trials. If you have watched this one, I am sure you liked it a lot. If you are not, I strongly recommend watching (to watch) it from the beginning.
Though the list can be long, here are 5 things to learn from the series …..
1. Passion shines through your attitude: You got it right. Harvey is so full of it that you will fall in love with him. Although he comes across as arrogant and cocky, he makes you realize how much he loves his work. It’s his passion for work that enables him to slay lawyers and opponents in deposition. He will actually make you think about having an attitude and personal style of your own. Similarly for Mike, Donna or Louis, you can see their passion for work in every move and gesture of theirs.
2. You are not your past: The young lead in the show, Mike Ross, isn’t a Harvard Graduate despite taking LSAT for many students and making the money from it. On top of impressing the A league like Harvey and Jessica, he has been consistent in leading to victories for the firm. Your past doesn’t define your future. Mike Ross is not only a good lawyer; he is a good human being and loved by almost everybody for his talent, work ethic, humanitarian values and behavior.
3. Being vulnerable isn’t bad after all: Although Louis Litt wins hands down for being vulnerable since the beginning, Mike Ross, Harvey Specter, Jessica Pearson, Donna and Rachel. Every individual on the show has vulnerable sides which make them look less perfect every now and then. They come strong in their domains, they shine through what makes them vulnerable and they don’t forget to admit so to their close ones. Each one of them stands tall in weak moments and looks exactly like us, with deeper emotions and feelings we just can’t express. Your vulnerability defines you, it makes you stronger, sharper and keeps you on your toes. P.S. You will love Louis for his vulnerability.
4. Loyalty, Professionalism and Team spirit: Loyalty is a trait undermined among other traits of our time but isn’t it the reason big corporate are founded on and why they grew taller and bigger. Mike’s loyalty to Harvey, Harvey’s loyalty to his profession, Jessica’s to the firm, Louis’s to Jessica or Donna’s to Harvey. Their intertwined faith and trust makes the firm go higher and come out of difficult situations and times. The characters are thorough professionals with their work, relationships, and firm, without boasting about it.
5. Team wins hands down: A firm succeeds through team spirit among the employees, irrespective of horizontal or vertical structures. A strong message to get here is, you don’t have to like somebody to work with them. The love and hate relationship between Harvey and Louis is the best example of not allowing competition or your dislikes to come between work. In fact, the bickering and unspoken respect of each other’s talent is a thing to watch.
Donna’s wit and humor alongside her sharpness, ethics and bond with Harvey and Mike is another thing I truly love. Its till season 3 that I have watched, more leanings might follow as I watch the other seasons.
Watching this series is a true investment of time and its absolute enjoyment for people with strong values for work and relationships as well as great taste for acting and style.

1 年Well done Sarita! I am team coach for the c suite in small to medium companies. Although I’m only into season two, I find all you wrote and more as inspiration. The ever present candor of all characters is an example of “speaking the truth in love”. Something we all could learn from. Donna is my hero and the best example of what HBR noted years ago as the needed “toxic handlers” in organizations.
