5 Things that keep us from Success
Came across something yesterday in my travels across the social media landscape. The post was on "The 5 Types of People who will never be rich", but you can easily convert that to "The 5 things that keep us from success". Here is my take on these:
1. The hater - The person who looks to find fault in others success vs. trying to be inspired to achieve their own. If you come across those who are successful find out who they are and how they got there. Success isn't achieved in a vacuum and instead of hating, ask them to be a mentor, seek them out for guidance and assistance...learn from others vs. trying to bring them down!
2. The excuse maker - The person who finds every reason why they don't take action. Being successful is a life long journey and should be something you never stop striving for. We will all stumble along the way, even fall down sometimes but if we use those times as excuses then we are failing ourselves.
3. The "I can't do it" attitude - Similar to the excuse maker, this attitude uses the excuses to justify why they can't do something. Negative attitudes will more often then not result in negative outcomes. Positive attitudes help to drive positive outcomes, we shouldn't let negativity influence our ability to be the best that we can be.
4. The "money is the root of all evil" mentality - Closely aligned to the first one, "the hater". For some people money is root of evil but in the end money didn't make someone a bad person, the individual is what makes someone a bad person. I liken this to one of my favorite quotes of all time. It goes something like this: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your reputation is who people think you are, your character is who you really are." Ensure you are building good character, so the success you find doesn't alter who you are. Honesty, morals and values is what builds character. Your reputation is the outcome of the time you spent (or didn't spend) establishing them.
5. Trying to look rich instead of trying to get rich - If all you do is care about the material appearance of a successful life vs. trying to actually build one, then you will never be able to achieve true success. It's ok to want to look great because it makes you feel great. However, that only takes us so far.
Take care everyone and have a great day!
