5 Things I’m NOT Doing During Black History Month

I know that it is normal to share historical information, insights, and stories about black people during Black History Month, but I'm taking a slightly different approach, on my social platforms, for my own sanity.

Here are 5 Things I’m NOT Doing During Black History Month:

1) Providing extensive FREE education, information, or resources to people on social media, about black history. (You can Google and YouTube search just like I can. Feel free to indulge.)

2) Entertaining any person, company, or organization who wants access to my time, intellectual property, or “labor” without paying my required fees for my services/programs in full. (Normalize paying black people a premium for our knowledge, expertise, experience, time, and emotional labor. We deserve it, just like everyone else.)

3) Engaging with internet trolls who are committed to their own willful ignorance about systemic racism. I’m open to differing opinions, and constructive discussions. But you can’t dispute facts with me. Not today, not ever.

4) Turning down my “blackness” to make other people comfortable. No code switching happening over here. You get what you get, in all of my AAVE glory! (That stands for African-American Vernacular English…that’s the only free game I’m giving you lol.)

5) Doing the work for folks, or explaining things to people on social media, that are readily available via a quick search on Google (See point number one above.) Can you believe that someone asked me the other day, “What is systemic racism?” And this is not even considered, “doing the work”. Smh Before you ask questions, do your own research first…always!

About My 21 Days of Anti-Racism Challenge...

Every day, for 21 days, you will receive one challenge to do for that day, to guide you on your journey of anti-racism, along with one historical fact, story, or point of reference, to reflect on for that day.

At the end of the challenge, we will come together to have a live Q&A session and discussion, and create a solid plan for you to continue, and stay committed to your anti-racism journey, for the rest of the year, and beyond.

“After watching the first 120-minute webinar with Ashani Mfuko, I left feeling angry, hopeful, informed, and inspired with practical things to add to what I do. I appreciate the perspective and the history behind it.

As an educator of 3 1/2 decades, I know that over the years I have made many mistakes, but this affirmed that so much of what I have been doing in the past decade is right on track. Not perfect, but a good beginning.

Ashani broke down simply, things that I can do today, and areas where I can guide and support the teachers in my school to do to make a difference.Thank you Ashani. I look forward to continuing to hear and learn.” ~ Katherine Ccs, Principal

This is WHY I do what I do!

The thing is, you heart is in the right place. You want systemic racism to end. You want to make a positive difference. You’re just not quite sure HOW to do it.

That’s where I come in!

Stop trying to figure out your anti-racism journey on your own, then getting frustrated, losing steam, getting complacent, and then getting revved up again, after seeing yet another unarmed black person in the news, who was killed by the police.

It’s time to end your own vicious cycle, and get a solid plan on what your anti-racism journey should really look like, in order to make an impact!

Join my “21-Days of Anti-Racism Challenge” (Black History Month Virtual Event), on my website here, https://bit.ly/21DayAntiRacismChallenge.

We start on Sunday, Feb. 7th, 2021, and it will be a life-changing experience for you, on your anti-racism journey!

I look forward to welcoming you into this transformational 21-Day Challenge for Black History Month! See you there!
