5 Things I Explored This Week

5 Things I Explored This Week

1) What I am thinking

2 weeks ago was one of the greatest weeks of my life where I achieved a bunch of things back to back. One of the common questions, people asked me was “So, are you happy?”, “Are you satisfied?”

Those questions led me to reflect back on my 3-year journey since I came to Canada. When I was in high school, I used to think, that when I go to Canada I would be happy and peaceful. Once I reached Canada, I told myself, that when I get a job in my field, I will be satisfied and happy. Once I achieved that, my mind automatically picked some other goal and that cycle never ended UNTIL a few months ago.?

As human beings, we are wired to attach ourselves to future outcomes which leads us to not being in the present moment and enjoying it. We keep thinking “If I achieve “X”, then I will be happy/peaceful/satisfied”.?

But you have achieved all your goals that you said would make you happy/peaceful/satisfied. Take a moment to read that again.?

That was such a profound realization for me! I used to constantly chase things and used to attach myself to the outcomes which led me to not being in the present moment.?

I am not saying that you shouldn’t set goals. I set huge goals for myself. But the only difference is - that I don’t try to get attached to the outcome and instead, I focus on enjoying the journey which is filled with pain, stress, and suffering which in turn gives me satisfaction and peace.?

This is one of the hardest things to do and I am still trying to master this skill of being in the present moment and enjoying the journey without being attached to the outcome.?

What are your thoughts on this? Do you attach yourself to the outcome or are focused on the present moment??

2) Quote I am pondering?

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” – Siddhārtha Gautama (Buddha)
