5 things that helped me fight a personal debacle
=================================================
Last 15th May 2022, I will remember throughout my life and the lesson it taught me was stupendous.
It was a busy Sunday evening in Navi Mumbai. I was engrossed in discussing some upcoming projects with my WFH team when my son came running in. My mom had met with an accident and was rushed to the hospital in Kolkata. In a split second my life turned upside down. I won't bore you with the nitty-gritty of the life-threatening condition mom went through and is still going through but will share some thoughts that I felt helped me and still helping me sail through this tough time:
1) Clarity
2) Communication
3) Contacts

4) Compassion
5) Care
These 5 Cs helped me get organized in my mind and streamline the thoughts that helped me fight this long battle. Sometimes even in our businesses and jobs, things come falling down like a house of cards, but these tough life lessons gave me so much power that I could fight out one of the biggest battles of my life.
1. Clarity: Get organized in your mind, understand the situation well, what has already gone wrong and is unrepairable, and what can be mended or taken care of. How to get organized with your paperwork, take stocks of mom's medicines, blood sugar and sodium/potassium level,s and other stuff. Give her medicine on time during the rehab progress, chart down every situation, with or without medicines, and so on. That helped me tremendously to discuss things with multiple doctors and surgeons.
2. Communication: Whatever minimum time you get to talk with the various doctors and surgeons to clear your doubts and understand what is the process that they will take to give care to mom. Same thing in professional life as well. Proper communication will definitely help to assess the situation better and expect the proper outcome.
3. Contacts: No battle can be fought without the right team and the right contacts. Simple. I was all alone in this situation as my contacts in Kolkata were limited. But real good network from Mumbai + Kolkata and some helpful people and their contacts helped me a lot to sail through the tough time. In a business scenario also we cannot underestimate the power of a real powerful contact or multiple small but effective contacts.
4. Compassion: Having the nudge in you that I am so moved by your pain that I will definitely do something to ease your pain is a god's gift and some people have it in plenty. I am indebted to some common people who shared their seats when they see you in pain, who take the effort to come all the way to the hospital to understand the issue and talk to concerned doctors or just be there with you when you feel alone, I believe is God's way of saying, I am seeing everything and I am sending my people to help you fight this war. In professional life also, many of the big battles are fought purely with compassion.
5. Care: Assuring your near ones or extending a helping hand to a totally unknown person, that I care for you sometimes reap benefits when the right cards are not on your side. Mom had totally lost her hope, but being with her and assuring her constantly that I care for her gave (very little) but some confidence in her. In professional life also it is extremely important to show care in a bad situation, assuring your teammates that you care means a lot to them and also boosts their morale in a tough situation. My life's mantra, don't leave the hand of even the weakest team member. Show you care for them. They will remain with you for a longer time and face challenges with you.
