Recently, I had the opportunity to explore the Phuket smart home market from a new perspectives. What insights does Google have about this market? Google possesses a vast knowledge about our digital behaviours, internet searches, websites, travel destinations, videos and clicks. Basically, Google knows our preferences, and patterns.
So, what does Google holds about the Phuket smart home market? Unfortunately, not all the information Google store on us are accessible to the public, but it does provide insights into research behaviors and website visits. This includes data on users interested in smart home technologies in Phuket.
I'm reporting here without commentary or analysis, 5 key insights that Google possesses. The numbers speak for themselves.
#1: Security is most searched Home automation. According to Google's 2023 data, the combined research for security systems, alarm systems, cameras, and CCTV averages about 2000 searches per month, with equal distribution between English (920) and Thai (1080) languages.
#2: In Phuket, the terms "Smart Home" and "Home Automation" have been searched an average of 100 times per month. However, when targeting Phuket globally, these terms are searched only 10 times per month.
#3: The typical devices comprising a smart home system, such as home theatre, thermostat, automatic curtains, automatic gate, and others, were searched an average of 10 times per month in Phuket. Exceptions include smart switches and thermostats, which were researched 70 and 40 times, respectively.

#4: Excluding highly differentiated brands like Samsung, Siemens, and Philips, the most researched brands in Phuket include Schneider (140), Bticino (70), Honeywell (50), and Control4 (20). Other brands and technologies, such as Jung, ABB, Crestron, Somfy, and KNX, did not yield significant search numbers.
#5: Searches for professional home automation resellers and installers, which may indicate demand pockets, are primarily conducted using keywords like "smart home specialist," "home automation specialist," and others, with each keyword garnering no more than 10 searches per month.
In conclusion, it's important to consider these data in light of Phuket's population, approximately half a million locals and 100,000 foreigners in 2023. I can confirm the presence of around 10 established smart home professionals on the island, but this number is dynamic, with new companies emerging annually. At any given time, the number of companies offering smart home installation services could potentially double. It's worth noting that Phuket typically releases 2,000–3,000 new housing units per year, according to the data reported in February by the Nation Thailand newspaper. As last, it is important to remind those who are not familiar with Google data, digital activities are reported in the order of tens.
Now, I invite you to share your thoughts and observations on these findings. How do you interpret the data provided?
