A philanthropic donation by Jack and Laura Dangermond has safeguarded 24,000 acres of land along the California coast from development. Today, the Dangermond Preserve is a living experiment facilitated by the Point Conception Institute, an ecology lab set up by the Nature Conservancy. Learn more about how this generous donation has saved this expansive ranch from development. Now essentially a huge eco lab, according to Dangermond, "The principle of the Point Conception Institute is open research, meaning if you come and do research, you have to leave the data you collect to be combined with the existing data..."
NASA's newest Earth-observing satellite has made it off the chopping block all the way to orbit - The Trump era government tried endlessly to kill this project. After a successful launch from Cape Canaveral atop a SpaceX Falcon 9, PACE is going to show us the biology of the oceans at a scale that we've never been able to see before. One of the three instruments now in orbit, a spectrometer called the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI), will map out the ocean's many hues in great detail and an unprecedented range, from near-infrared wavelengths all way to the ultraviolet. Taking place Feb 13 from 10 am - 2 pm (MST) the ArcGIS Water Resources User Group Meeting is intended to celebrate great work taking place in GIS within the water resources industry. The goal of this meeting is to keep users updated on how peers are approaching commonly held challenges within the water resources industry with GIS. In this meeting, we can stimulate discussion and thought on how we can all use GIS more effectively in our own organizations.
