The 5 Tech Skills in Demand Across the Middle East

It's been a few weeks since I joined GRG as a Principal Consultant, continuing my journey to secure the best tech talent in the Middle East. During this time, my conversations with many companies and candidates have reinforced the fact that driving innovation and growth is a primary focus.

However, given the constantly changing landscape, achieving these goals requires a strategic approach to hiring and ensuring the right skill sets are in place, 5 of which I have identified.

These 5 skills aren’t just highly sought after, they have proven to businesses that they provide a competitive advantage. Let’s delve into each of these skills and their importance in today’s tech driven world.

1 – Artificial Intelligence

AI is a hot topic in business technology, no longer a groundbreaking concept but a part of our everyday lives. With the introduction of generative AI platforms like ChatGBT, organizations are increasingly adopting AI-infused tools and platforms to automate tasks, personalize ads, improve efficiency etc.… Consequently, organizations must focus on hiring individuals who can identify tasks suitable for automation, processes that can be delegate to AI and how to leverage AI applications effectively.

2 – Cyber Security

While technology lets us do some amazing things, it also exposes us to new threats. Implementing cybersecurity skills is more critical than ever, starting from the basics of password management to avoiding phishing attacks. This is particularly true in Saudi Arabia, which has experienced over 7bn cyber attacks since 2021. As a result, Cyber security Managers are in high demand as firms look to implement strong security policies.

3 – User Experience

?In today’s market, the experience of buying or using a product/ service is as crucial as its price or quality. With more subscription-based models and disposable products, the role of UI and UX designers has become more critical than ever. These professionals help find technological solutions to customer problems and ensure everything is designed in an intuitive efficient way.

4 – Software Development

Alongside the above-mentioned skills, the launch of new projects in the region, such as Dubai’s Metaverse strategy has increased demand for software developers. Skills in VR, AR and blockchain are particularly sought after and as many firms continue their digital transformation programs, the need to implement digital solutions remains imperative.

5 – Cloud

The shared economic goal of becoming a data and tech driven region has naturally led to an increase in cloud adoption. All the above skills mentioned are directly supported by cloud platforms, meaning firms are actively seeking experts in cloud platforms, infrastructure, architecture and engineering. Further, newer models of cloud computing like hybrid cloud are also sought after due to their potential in leveraging AI.

Overall, organizations and candidates can thrive in a tech driven future by focusing on developing skills in AI, Cyber security, User experience, Development and Cloud.
