5 Sustainable Beauty Trends to Watch in 2023

While clean beauty has been popular for a few years now, it’s set to be even bigger in 2023. With an increasing number of beauty brands set to overhaul their operations to increase their green credentials, it’s more important than ever before that companies keep an eye on sustainable trends to come, to maintain a competitive edge in the industry.?

From plastic-free packaging to mission-driven beauty, we’ve put together a selection of the top sustainable beauty trends to look out for in 2023.

  1. Plastic-free packaging

There are plenty of sustainable-first beauty brands who already steer clear of plastic, but we can expect to see more companies adopting the same approach. From bamboo packaging to recyclable glass jars, there are now so many sustainable packaging options available that making the switch is a no-brainer.

  1. Mission-driven movement

Whether it’s planting a tree for every purchase or supporting a re-wilding project, brands are choosing to align themselves with eco-conscious projects. We expect to see the uptake of this trend grow in 2023, as consumers become increasingly concerned with how their buying decisions impact their carbon footprint.

  1. Natural fragrances

While natural fragrance trend have been around for a long time, they’ve recently seen a spike in popularity with brands such as Chopard creating fragrances from natural and sustainably sourced ingredients. At the end of 2022, singer Billie Eilish launched her second-ever perfume, which is both vegan and cruelty-free. Keep an eye on this trend in 2023, as we expect an increasing number of fragrance houses to look to improve their green credentials.

  1. Carbon-neutrality

With sustainability increasingly becoming the norm across the board, some brands are looking to go a step further, by working towards carbon-neutrality, and even carbon-negativity. Brands are achieving this by assessing their carbon emissions, then reducing them where possible. Any emissions that can’t be eliminated are then offset, with the purchase of carbon credits. Carbon negative brands aim to remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than they produce.

  1. A commitment to transparency

By now, most consumers and businesses alike are aware of the reputational and financial dangers associated with greenwashing, a practice that involves companies over-stating their green credentials as part of their marketing strategies. With this in mind, more and more brands are choosing to be as transparent as possible with their customers, both when it comes to their current sustainable practices, and their future goals and targets.
