THE 5-STYLES OF LEADERSHIP... WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

Hey Team!
I made it!
Back from the West Coast…
After a Saturday night red-eye and a full day of cheering on Mom.. it is time to get back to work!
It feels so good after taking a little break to get back to my desk… writing to y’all, catching up on emails, and getting creative for a host of things I have coming up (get ready.. you are going to like these things!)…
With that, as I was doing a hike on Saturday afternoon in the Hollywood Hills.. a thought that popped into my head was about Leadership…
A true modern day buzz-word….
When we think of the word Leadership, I am sure the faces of 3–4 Guru’s immediately come to mind….
But, let’s work to see Leadership as a way of being, rather than that of a person.
You are a Leader. I am a Leader. Your parents are Leaders. Your friends are Leaders. We all have to lead people (or animals) in some way…
But the most important person we have to lead is ourself.
So, as I was gasping for air, I realized there are actually 5-different leadership styles…
Ready?
1. Empowerment.(Believes in empowering others)
2. Collaborative.(Believes in working as a unit to achieve a goal- ego free)
3. Dependent.(Believes in making others dependent upon them for survival)
4. Co-Dependent.(Depending on each-other in a negative, self-righteous way)
5. Dictator.(My way, or no way)
Now, I am sure again, when you read each of these, a face may have popped into your mind. But, which one are you? You can also be a combination.
I will tell you what does not work today… DICTATOR.
Today, the best Leaders are Empowering Collaborators.
If that is your natural style- you are lucky.
If it is not- it may be time to get to work.
But, it is also important to remember your natural leadership style..
So, if you are part dictator, you may be stern, aggressive, and demanding- embrace that.
There will be some that love to play or work for you because that motivates them.
But, there may be others who will hate you for it- let them go.
Remember, we all have a “way” about us- that “WAY” is our essence.
As long as that “WAY” is not the result of insecurity, overcompensation, and an “I will prove it to you” learned operating system, be YOU!
Meaning, we do not want to just ACT a certain way because the trials and tribulations of life have made us bitter.
But, like I said, if you are an edgy S.O.B. that likes to run hard.. you have high expectations for yourself and others, then giddy-up.
Build the team that matches your leadership style.
I meet so many Coaches and CEOs and Managers that are frustrated with their team because the team does not exude their “boldness” or desire for higher achievement/ expectations.
As the leader, do not change.
Find your tribe. Find your team. Find those who match your style and Organizations style.
That is what has made dynasty sports teams so great. The Yankees never compromise when it comes to finding competitors who expect Championships.
Neither should you.
Never compromise on those ideals and values that make you great. (but always be real with yourself)….
What is your Leadership style?
Let’s GO.
Chase Greatness.
