Here's my top 5 stress management tips for busy work-driven men over 40 struggling to prioritise health and need to lose weight & look the part
Over the past 4 years I've been helping busy, time-poor business owners and professionals re-prioritise their health and lose up to 30Lbs in 12 weeks..
I've found that stress plays a big factor in our behaviour and decision making which is why pillar 4 of 5 in my program covers stress management.
What I'm sharing with you here are quick, simple strategies to help you get a handle on stress...
I know first hand how challenging and at times, soul destroying it can be working in a high stress career / business with projects to hit, deadlines... whilst having a family to care for and a tight schedule where time is short..
Your health having to go on the back-burner seems like the only option but often leads you down a rabbit hole..
Have you ever found yourself having been in back-to-back meetings all day and by the end of the day you feel exhausted and like you're no further forward with your important projects?
So I'd be rushing through work projects any time I got a chance but I'd always feel overwhelmed as hell with the amount of things I needed to get done but never enough time.
So here’s the thing, I used to just power through thinking if I kept going I would get more done. I wish I knew back then that I could prime myself and my brain for greater productivity if I took myself out of the situation for even just 5 minutes and had a glass of water.
So here's my top 5 tips for getting a handle on stress while making the time for your health..
TIP 1: Go outside, get some sunlight if there is or take yourself to a neutral place away from your work AND have a full glass of water.
TIP 2: It’s midday and it might as well be midnight as you feel done in, no energy left and you just want to eat crap and nap.
The problem is though that your workload and deadlines keep piling up and it’s not going to let up anytime soon. Unfortunately a break is not in sight, your next holiday is a while away and in any case you’re now considering using the first week of your two week holiday as sleep therapy.
You forget to fuel your body and just end up reaching for chocolate bars and anything to try and keep hunger away which leads to more tiredness and unhealthy choices.
Eating at least 2 well balanced meals will put you in a much better physical and mental space though..
Here's tip 2: Schedule your eating times in your calendar with reminders or alarms. Prepare your meals beforehand. If you are strapped for time, use nutritionally balanced ready made meals..
I have used Macro-Meals at times for this and really helped me while I was starting to build my business and had so many things I had to do...
This “meal investment” will pay off more than you think in the way you operate and make decisions.
TIP 3. Looking in the mirror and not quite happy with who is looking back at you? The weight has been silently piling on or you’re not quite in the shape you would like to be.
Excess weight can influence self-confidence at work and at home .

How you feel about yourself shows up in everything you do..
The way you work, the way you are at home, the way you communicate with people and ultimately if your income is based on your ability to make sales it shows up on sales calls where prospects can feel your lack of confidence in yourself and offer which is a deal breaker.
So tip 3 is: Work on self acceptance whilst making weight loss a priority.. hiring a coach to help you with this will give you the accountability and the tools to make it happen while taking away all the guess work and stress of trying to figure out how to do it on your own and will save you a ton of time which already you don't have.
TIP 4: Have you noticed decreased motivation, reduced enjoyment in activities, changes in sleep patterns, or changes in appetite?
Stress does that and can spiral to all sorts of other problems like negative thinking and negative self-talk until one day you find yourself depressed and unsure how to get out of it.
So tip 4 is: Practice daily gratitude
Gratitude has been linked to lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. It can help shift our focus from negative thoughts and emotions to more positive ones, leading to improved mental well-being. Gratitude can also help build resilience and coping skills.
Keep a 'Health Journal' where each morning write down 3 things that you're grateful for.
TIP 5: Feeling stiff and starting to feel those niggles? Are you wanting to play with the kids but the aches the aches not allowing for that.
Movement, any movement is better than none.
Stepping in a gym for you right now can be overwhelming and you're probably dreading it..
Start with small steps..
Just start moving more and incorporate it into your day.
Stretch at your desk. If in the office, schedule walking meetings if possible or if it’s listening only meetings, use your mobile and walk whilst listening. Get a movement or exercise friend and hold each other accountable.
