5 Strategies for Embracing Imperfections
In this hyper-competitive modern world, it's all too easy to fall into bad habits of judging yourself and others too harshly. Before you know it, you permanently set your inner monologue to negativity. You feel dissatisfied and grumpy with everyone and everything. And that's no way to live your best life!
Here are some top strategies to help you learn to accept imperfection in yourself and other people and leave that negative mindset behind.
1. Be Aware of Your Thoughts.
If an opposing viewpoint has become your default setting, you probably don't even realize when you're doing it. Take a moment to tune into your self-talk. Pay attention to the words you're using and purposefully course-correct for more positive language.
2. Decide to be More Positive
Make a conscious decision to change your inner monologue to focus on the positive. Rather than focusing on differences and seeing them as flaws, choose to see what is good in the other person. If you immediately criticize the way they speak, hair, or weight, change your view of them by finding something to admire.
3. Change Your View of the World
It's easy to habitually view things as right or wrong. Naturally, the choices of others may not be what you would choose. Perhaps you don't like Brussel sprouts or want to vacation in Hawaii or work for an eco-friendly company. But it doesn't mean the choices of others are wrong. They are simply different.

Seeing things as right or wrong is so limiting. Make an effort to open your mind and change your worldview. Doing so will help you to realize that all people's views are as equally valid as yours.
4. Remain in the Now
Many people maintain a history of imperfections and "wrongs" that seem to go back to the beginning of a relationship.?One might think they were the "perfection police," itching to add to their list of transgressions. Or they are anxious about future mistakes and how they might avoid them. Don't be that person! You can make a conscious choice to remain focused on the here and now and enjoy the beautiful people and things happening in your life now.
5. Turn Your Thinking Around
If you find yourself drifting back into your old habits of judging other people, turn your thinking around and ask yourself - "How would it feel if someone was judging you?" Remember that old saying about people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? It's good to remember that when you feel tempted to dismiss someone's actions or their appearance. Give other people a break, and they will be more likely to go easy on you.
You can choose to step out of the competition race at any time. Try it now and improve your life!
