5 steps to writing a high-converting email.
From a $100MM Email Marketer.
Let's dive in!
1. Interesting subject line
The subject line is the most crucial part of your email.
It has one purpose and one purpose only:
To grab people's attention.
Here's the thing:
People scroll through hundreds of emails every day…
But they only open those emails that make their eyes stop.
So how do you make their eyes stop?
Here are a few ways:
- Use YOU language
- Include power words
- Be specific
- Ask questions
- Make a bold promise
Combine two or more of those and you're good to go.
2. Intriguing preview text
Most people don't know this...
But you have two "subject lines".
First one is the real subject line.
Second one is the preview text.
If the subject line catches their attention.
The preview text makes them click on your email.
The preview text should reference what you said in your subject line.
But it should also introduce or reference what you're saying inside your email.
Pro Tip: Keep it under 40 characters if you want all of your recipients to see it in its entirety.
3. Compelling headline
Now that you got them to open your email.
You have to make them scroll down.
You need to have a compelling headline.
That is, a headline that is:
- Interesting
- Exciting
- And relevant
Enough to make them want to keep reading.
Email headlines are very simple.
领英推荐
Most of the time, you just have to say what the email is about in an engaging way.
Some examples:
>> 15% OFF on selected products!
>> Celebrate with a new [Product]
>> Buy [Product] now and save $[X]!
Nothing complicated about it.
4. Engaging body copy
You already made them scroll down.
Now you have to make them read the rest of your email.
Essentially:
You have to make them read the line after your headline...
Then the next one...
Then the next one...
And so on.
How do you do that?
- Simple words
- Short sentences
- Short paragraphs
- Transition words
- Start sentences with conjunctions
The choppier your copy is, the more engaging it will be.
5. Good CTA
The CTA should stand out from everything else in your email.
This is the one thing you want your readers to notice.
Here's how to craft a good CTA:
- Striking color
- High contrast text
- Use a verb
- Use active voice
Make it impossible not to click.
