5 Steps to Sustainable Transformation through Executive Coaching

Executive Coaching is an essential leadership development tool. It often takes shape as a series of collaborative one-on-one learning conversations to facilitate transformation and accelerate development.

Ultimately the goals of executive coaching are personal and professional growth. However, the journey towards this destination is unique for each person.

My experience has demonstrated that every client requires a customised approach to our engagement. Below is the workflow I follow with my clients regardless of their industry, seniority level, or aspirations:

Step 1 | Brief

We begin with a conversation to understand your needs, goals, challenges, and context. During this session, I assess your readiness/openness for being coached and explore if we are a good fit to work together. When I'm confident that we are aligned we then progress towards step two. Otherwise, I may refer you to a colleague who is better equipped to address your specific needs. To guide our subsequent discussions about your growth and transformation, I provide you with an overview of my programs and the coaching engagement which typically consists of 6-12 one-hour fortnightly sessions over a period of 3-6 months.

Step 2 | Sign-off

Once a decision is made to proceed, we both agree on a final version of your program structure. We agree to a coaching commitment that outlines the boundaries of the coaching relationship, my commitments, your commitments, confidentiality and ethics.

Step 3 | Kick-off

You complete assessments and diagnostics and we conduct a strategy session to document your goals and measures. Time for coaching to commence!

Step 4 | Coaching in Progress

The underlying belief which informs my coaching style is that you have the answers within yourself and I facilitate your journey of discovering solutions.

My role as your coach is to identify patterns and guide you to your own conclusions through questioning. I also hold space for reflection to take place and insights to emerge through mindful listening and active questioning. Often this process will aid you to move beyond your previous frames of reference and to uncover blind spots. Last, but not least I serve as your accountability partner.

Mid-way through the program we have a preliminary opportunity to evaluate, review progress, and discuss feedback. Of equal importance, we celebrate milestone achievements towards your agreed strategic goals throughout the program.

Step 5 | Conclusion

In the last session, we carry out a debrief and perform a final evaluation of the overall program. I provide next steps and recommendations aimed to sustain development and growth.

I will reconnect with you three months after the program conclusion to share updates and reflect on your current needs.
