5 steps to support parent employees

It's #WorkLifeWeek, a week dedicated to getting employers and employees talking about wellbeing at work, and work-life balance. Working parents are constantly juggling being active and engaged parents with focusing on their roles in work. Here are five steps you can take to support your parent employees.

1. Offer flexibility where possible

Many parents find it challenging to strike a work-life balance. Think about how your business can incorporate flexible working arrangements, such as remote or hybrid work options, flexitime, or compressed hours. Allowing parents to adjust their schedules can enable them to balance family commitments while maintaining their productivity and job satisfaction.

2. Add parenting support to your employee benefit packages

Can you enhance your existing employee benefit package by adding tailored parenting support? This could include childcare support, extended parental leave, enhanced maternity and paternity policies or the provision of resources or support, such as the Parenting Family Hub.

3. Host workshops for employees on relevant topics

Organise workshops that address parenting-related challenges. Topics could range from time management and stress reduction to parenting strategies and communication skills. Bringing in experts can provide valuable insights and foster a sense of community among employees facing similar situations. Check out our range of Parenting Family Employee Wellbeing sessions here.

4. Provide tailored support for new parents

The transition to parenthood can be overwhelming. Offering access to parenting resources and financial wellbeing sessions can help ease the anxieties that often come with this life-changing event.

5. Create an inclusive working environment

Encourage open conversations about work-life balance with employees and their line managers. ?Ensure that parental responsibilities are respected and acknowledged, but also ensure that all employees are given equal opportunity to raise and discuss issues.
