- Start with personal development plans #PDP. Just like it is impossible to cure someone who doesn't want to recover, you can not teach an adult if there is no personal interest. For a person to realise that there is a need in some specific knowledge, include education into PDP of each employee and plan trainings correspondingly.
- Discuss challenges. If your company or the department you are responsible for is facing a challenge or some difficulties, make sure that the employees know about it. You can not expect the team to help you, if they don't even know there is a problem. Arrange an open discussion of high-level challenges, let the team brainstorm ideas to overcome them. An external or internal training is often a solution. Make sure the team is involved when an idea of such a solution first appears.
- Post-training tests. A 10-minute test for employees after a training will help to consolidate the result and discover what needs to be refreshed.
- Plan KPI's. While planning a training, think of the KPI's you will be tracking to control the effectiveness. Don't forget to track them.
- Use and share. Let employees honestly share their personal experience of using new knowledge and tools. The best practice must be spread among the employees and scaled.
