5 Steps to Falling Back in Love with Your Business

5 Steps to Falling Back in Love with Your Business

Current Reality

Do you love your business or is it time for some relationship counselling?

You’re stressed and overwhelmed. You feel as though you’re working all of the time and, no matter how much you do, it never feels like you’re moving forward.

You find yourself dreading the day-to-day tasks within your business and at moments, you catch yourself wondering if all of this work is really worth it.

If you’ve fallen out of love with your business, you’re not alone. It can happen to even the most inspiring entrepreneurs.

The good news is that with some simple, intentional choices, you can reconnect with the vision that led you to start your business in the first place, free yourself from the tasks that are weighing you down, and fall back in love with your business.

Potential Reality

  • Take a little break.

It can sound counter intuitive, I get it, you have so much to do in your business, but taking a break can make an incredible difference in how you feel about your business.

When was the last time you took a day off (yes, a whole day off) from work?

Often when I speak with business owners who are stressed out and overwhelmed, they can’t remember the last time they took a day off from work.

When we’re always working, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of day-to-day tasks and lose sight of the big picture.

Allow yourself to take a little time away from work. This could be an evening, a morning, or perhaps an entire day - the key is to step away from your business entirely for a short window of time. I promise that everything won’t fall apart if you stop working for a few hours.

Then use this time to do something that renews your spirit. This might be spending time outdoors, doing something with friends, spending time with your significant other or children, or perhaps reading a book you just haven’t had time for.

When we take a step back, it allows us to see everything from a fresh perspective. We’re able to reconnect with what matters most and recharge so that we have the energy to move forward from a place of peace and intention.

  • Reconnect with your vision or reason “why.”

As we’re caught up in the daily tasks of business, it can be easy to feel like every little thing is so important. We often end up worrying and stressing out about all of the little details, to the point where eventually everything feels like a crisis or emergency.

When we’re so stressed out, it’s no wonder that we dread working on or in our business.

After you’ve taken a little step back, give yourself some time to reconnect with your vision for your business or the reason why you started your business in the first place.

Reconnect with what really matters.

Who are you here to help?

What do you long to create?

What difference will this make?

Why does this matter?

Allow yourself to reconnect with this vision to the point where you can feel excited about your business and the work you’re doing. If it helps, you may want to write down your answers to these questions, so you can continue to remind yourself of what matters most.

  • Be willing to be honest with yourself.

If you’re working by yourself in business, it can be easy to think things are going better or worse than they really are.

You have a few wins and everything looks great. You run into a few challenges and it feels like everything is falling apart. It’s time to get off the roller coaster of emotions that can come with entrepreneurship.

Now that you’ve reconnected with your vision, it’s time to take an honest assessment of whether or not your business is aligned with what you want to create.

Are you moving towards your vision? If so, how do you know this to be true?

What parts of your business feel aligned?

What parts of your business are going well?

Do parts of your business feel like a struggle? Why do you think this is?

Are there parts of your business that aren’t supporting your vision? If so, how can you change this?

What do you wish was different about your business? What difference would this make?

Give yourself some time to go over these questions and take note of the answers that come up for you. Most likely you’ll find that your business is going better than you’d thought, and it’s really only a few key areas that you want to focus on changing.

Once you know what’s working and what isn’t, you’re able to focus on making those changes that will transform your business (and how you feel about it).

  • Ask for help.

There’s a myth in this world of entrepreneurship that as a business owner, you “should” be able to do it all. The truth is that trying to do it all on your own limits your business growth and how many people you’re able to serve.

Reconnect with your big reason, why you first started your business. How many of your daily tasks align with that vision? How many are tasks you’re simply doing because they need to get done?

Look at your daily to-do list and see what tasks can be taken off of your plate.

Are there tasks that don’t really need to be done? Allow yourself to take them off of your to-do list.

Are there tasks that could wait until a later point in time?  Give yourself permission to come back to them somewhere down the road.

Are there tasks that someone else might be able to do for you?

If you’ve never delegated in your business, I know it can be scary at first. At the same time, just think of what you can do with the free time you’ll have when someone else can help with some of the regular tasks required to run your business.

How might your time be better spent?

How would it feel if you no longer had to handle all of the daily tasks within your business?

  • Take inspired action.

Once you’ve reassessed your priorities, it’s time to take inspired action.

What feels like the next right step in your business?

What ideas energize you or light you up?

Perhaps you’re ready to hire support to hand over some of your daily tasks.

Maybe it’s time to focus on bringing that big idea (the one you’ve been dreaming about and saving for “some day”) to life.

Start with what feels inspired and trust that your next right steps will appear as you move forward.

If you’ve fallen out of love with your business, don’t give up. The truth is that we need you and the work you do. We need your vision and your gifts.

How you’re feeling right now isn’t a sign that it’s time to call it quits. Rather, stress and overwhelm are simply signs that you might be off-course.

Give yourself a little time to follow and explore these five steps. Trust the answers and wisdom that come to you. Reach out to those who can support you, ease your way forward, and help you bring your vision to life. Dedicate yourself to taking inspired action that allows you to move forward in a way that energizes you and feels aligned with what you want to create. Fall in love with your business again.
