5 Steps to Create an Awesome Winter

I hope you're having a blessed, productive, successful, creative and peaceful week!

I had a chat with a friend a few days ago and she's just finished her job last week and will be looking for another next week.

This week she's taking a break and she enjoys the outdoors.

Many people know that i work from home and that i enjoy being at home.

Some people just don't understand how i can stay home all the time!

But, hey, that's cool by me if they don't understand! :)

Anyway, she asked me how do i keep going in life when i'm at home and how do i get through the autumn, winter months.

*CONFESSION TIME*

I have been through depression in the autumn/winter months in the past - A LOT.

Although i love all seasons - i don't take too nicely to the clocks going back and darkness at 4pm - to me it's like the day has ended and it's time to sleep!

So, in the past November, December, January and February were 'sad' months for me.

I could hibernate til March and i have wasted much time in the past just 'killing' the day!

Now though - through years of self-work - I've shifted myself - and i am at a much better place.

So, here's 5 steps to help you create an awesome winter for yourself and be happy, happy, happy.

[By the way, in the UK here, it's autumn now - leading into winter so it may not be the same where you are but it'll help you too!]

Step 1: Shift Your Perspective

As i said above, i shifted my perspective and i'm at a much better place now. I got true with myself and asked myself; 'Sup Nadia, Wuz Poppin?' (Yes, i self talk like that!). 

It really wasn't the cold months but me being off purpose and not aligned with my vision, not honouring my values and the beliefs i held.

I shifted my perspective, thanked God for these months (because you can get more sleep and rest up too) and got real passionate about my purpose.

There was no stopping me then!

So Step 1 ---> Shift Your Perspective

Step 2: Get Back on Purpose

Are YOU living a life of purpose?

As Muslims our ultimate purpose is to worship God and our unique purpose [insert whatever yours is here] is that which is aligned with our ultimate purpose.

It really is that simple and please don't waste your life like me in the past and complicate things - life is meant to be simple!

As soon as you get back on purpose you'll be able to honour your values and your beliefs too.

So, Step 2 ---> Be on Purpose!

Step 3: Take care of Yourself


Take care of your internal and external because they both need each other!

Start eating the right foods for the season which will help balance your organs. Drinks lots of water - warm if it's too cold for you.

Start wearing proper clothes for the season - to keep your body temperature balanced. 

Exercise to keep the body moving and flexible.

Take care of your skin too - mine suffers from dryness so lots of creams for hands, feet, face, lips etc.

So, Step 3 ---> Take care of Yourself (no one else will!)

Step 4: Your Hobbies


Get back into your hobbies - even if you left them when you were 10 years old (even if that means getting a colouring book and colouring!)

Outdoor activities and hobbies are good too - to get moving, keep fit and get some sunlight in you.

Get back into your old hobbies which you loved or try new ones.

Really get back into your passions.

I enjoyed learning all about business so i spent hours and hours learning and implementing and creating and the time would fly and i would be happy too!

So, Step 4 ---> Your Hobbies make you Happy!

Step 5: Socialise!


Ok, so, just because majority of the time i'm home it doesn't mean i don't socialise.

I DO!

I catch up with my friends on the phone. 

I go to see family and spend time with my teens.

Organise a get-together once a week - even at the local library.

Heck, just go to the local library - they have events daily.

So, Step 5 ---> Mix with Humans!

Winter months are also good for reflecting, journaling, reaping rewards of spring/summer and planning ahead.

This is also the time to step it up and not wait til 1st January.

And with that i will be helping you step it up and begin all ready before 1st January.

Getting back on purpose while maintaining self care really resonates with me. I find that I'll work really hard with a lot of productivity, ignoring diet and exercise while I complete projects. Then I give myself time to ground myself and recharge. It's cyclical, but works.
