5 Steps To A Better Body
Let's be real here for just a sec...
Most people say they would love to have a better body, whatever that may look like to you.
But in reality many people try and fail when they realise what's involved.
Building great physique is more than just working out a few times a week...
It's a way of life.
Anyone can be motivated at the start...
...but when life gets in the way it's easy to let other things become a priority and your fitness goals slip down the list.
With over 20 years experience doing this, (12 of those as a fitness professional), I've discovered some commonalities in those who succeed, and put together a 5 step plan to a better body as follows:
1/ COMMIT - First thing you need to do is make the commitment. Because it is a commitment transforming your body. The word COMMIT should NOT be taken lightly. Just like when you get married, you commit to being faithful to your partner for the rest of your life. You will have to make some permanent lifestyle changes and stick with them. If you commit to something, then follow through and do what you said you’re gonna do.
2/ GOAL - You need to have a measurable goal in order to track how far or close you are to achieving your goal. With a body transformation typically that will likely be a weight goal but it could also be based on how you want to look and progress pictures are the best way to measure this.
3/ PLAN - Once the goal is set, you need to create a plan to get there. The plan should contain all the action steps needed to achieve the goal. The best way to do this is to break the goal into smaller chunks. For example. Let’s say you want to lose 20lbs in 4 months. A good way to break that into smaller goals would be 5lbs a month. And to break this into an even smaller goal, it’s around 1lb a week. We know to lose a pound a week, you need to be burn 3500 calories a week. That’s a 500 calorie deficit every day. What daily actions do you need to take to make this happen? This is how detailed and strategic your plan should be if you’re serious about transforming your body.
4/ WORKOUT - Part of your daily action plan should of course include exercise. Your workouts should be specific to your goals. If it’s only weight loss you’re interested in, then any calorie burning activities will do. If you’re going for a specific look or shape, then you’ll need to incorporate some kind of resistance training. Workouts should be progressive to ensure a continued challenge. Other wise your body has no reason to change.
5/ EAT - Nutrition is 80% of the results you achieve and the more shredded you want to get the stricter you have to be with your food intake. Your food plan, like your workouts, should be specific to the goal. If you just want to lose weight, simply reducing your calories to create a deficit of 500 after exercise will suffice. If you want to step on stage as a bodybuilder at 5% fat, then you’ll need to weigh out every grain of rice, chicken and broccoli that you consume. I'm guessing you’ll probably want something in between. So I’d recommend starting with a high protein diet (around 1g/lb of body weight) and make up the rest of your calories through carbs and fats. Your nutrition has to evolve as your body changes. Most people know that workouts have to be progressive but don’t realise your nutritional requirements change too.
I hope you now have more clarity on whats involved in transforming your body so that if you are ready to make the commitment, then you know whats involved. And there's no point waiting until you're ready, because you'll never be ready. All you need to do is make the first step... COMMIT and the rest will fall into place.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
Of course, if you'd like to achieve your body transformation goals in a fraction of the time, then get a coach who can help you through the five steps...
Someone who will keep you COMMITTED.
Someone who will help you set clear realistic GOALS.
Someone to build and hold you accountable to a PLAN.
Someone to push you through your WORKOUTS.
And someone to help you EAT to fuel your lifestyle.
If you'd like that someone to be me then PM me the word "COMMIT" so I know you're ready!
Best,
Ed.
