What we focus on e x p a n d s.
That's important to remember right now.
Ever since the pandemic started, I've been intentional about limiting my media exposure. I intentionally do not watch the news, follow the coronavirus death counts or subject myself to any forms of media that have the potential to scare me vs. help me.
I find out what I absolutely need to know and then don't focus on the rest. Friends, family members and colleagues keep me in the loop and so does listening to occasional town hall updates from our mayor. Aside from that, I've chosen to shield myself from most of what is out there in the media right now.
Instead, I follow uplifting and encouraging sources of news media that give me hope in humanity and show me all of the bright spots in the midst of what feels like a dark and heavy season.
Here are five sources of good news that I encourage YOU to follow and fill your mind with. Remember, what we focus on expands! If we look for more goodness in the world, we will be more likely to notice it.
1. Some Good News with John Krasinski
As a huge fan of the show, The Office, I've always loved John Krasinski as an actor. When he came out with this recap of good things happening in the world at the onset of COVID19, I was hooked!
From virtual proms and potlucks to hedgehog obstacle courses, Some Good News captures the bright spots that are sure to leave you smiling and laughing (and crying!) and feeling good about humanity.
Krasinski posts new episodes each week and over two million people are now following the SGN channel on YouTube. I'd recommend watching the episodes with friends, family and/or colleagues if you're looking for a positive boost!
Episode 2 was my favorite, but they're all amazing! Subscribe to the SGN channel, so you are alerted each week when a new video drops!
2. Good News Network (GNN)
Prior to COVID19 happening, I had been following this website and their app for good news, uplifting quotes, and stories that make you feel hopeful and encouraged.
GNN has a podcast that shares uplifting news, too, and I'd highly recommend downloading their app and following them on Instagram. For positive stories 24/7, the Good News Network is the place to be!
3. Tank's Good News
Tank's is a source of uplifting stories about today's heroes, celebrities using their platforms for good, inspirational kids and heart-centered businesses. I first found out about them through their Instagram channel, where they share headlines and highlights of the stories on their site.
Once again, if you're looking for inspiration on a daily basis and moving stories about brave, courageous and creative people, look no further than Tank's Good News.
4. Humankind
"Uplifting stories of kindness" are shared on this news platform under USA Today.
With headlines like, "Canceled birthday party starts wave of kindness in entire town" and "These strangers start unlikely romance amid global pandemic," you will find dozens of inspiring and uplifting stories highlighting how incredibly kind, thoughtful and caring humans can be.
This story is one of my favorites!
5. Upworthy + GOOD
I've been following Upworthy for quite a while but just learned about their other website - GOOD. Upworthy describes its platform as "stories worth sharing" and GOOD has the tagline "for people who give a damn."
Both sites showcase the goodness of humanity, and their Instagram channels are also worth following. If you're going to follow and check social media right now, why not make it something positive and uplifting?
Tracking Your Own News
If you're looking for ways to track your own good news, try this practice I've been using for the past five weeks. It's really helped me!
And now...I'd love to hear from you!
What's helping you stay positive and uplifted these days?
Feel free to share with us below! :) What YOU share will likely help someone else!

4 年Thank you for the wise words, Rachel Druckenmiller ?? How often have I seen people become almost glued to the TV during times of natural disasters and other catastrophes, particularly slow-moving ones like the current pandemic. It's one thing to be informed, another to be obsessed.

4 年Amen to ALL of this Rachel! Well articulated. I agree that we always find what we look for. It all reminds me of what I learned many years ago from the late Stephen Covey - with his Circle of Concern and Circle of Influence. I try to focus my time, energy and efforts on my Circle of Influence.
