5 Simple Truths Affecting Retailers

5 Simple Truths Affecting Retailers

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” This quote attributed to Albert Einstein is a difficult balance.  Many times my own success has not been to take the most complex issue and find a great solution for it, but to take a very complex issue and break it down into simple, digestible pieces that can be executed on.

Retailing today is exciting. It’s seems that when you blink new ideas, new opportunities appear. But in the same moment, comes those that proclaim the answers. I am not above this and find myself doing it too.

With so much focus on the answer first, it is easy to lose sight of the reason or issues that led to it. Worse yet, it becomes easy to alter the perception of your own issues to match the answer. Thus while the answer may be a good one, it may not be the best one for you.

Going back to simple truths can give people opportunity to find the answer that works for them. It isn’t always unique, but it is usually better and executable.

Here are 5 simple truths affecting every retailer. They aren’t Earth shattering, nor are they meant to be. They meant to provide a reset, so that the Earth shattering ideas can be sprung from them.

Mark you have hit the nail in my opinion with this post. I especially like the way you have captured the constant evolution of retail in the last step. I keep repeating it in my head and might borrow it for conversation.
