5 Simple Templates for Crafting the Perfect LinkedIn Post

5 Simple Templates for Crafting the Perfect LinkedIn Post

[Click here to read this article on my website]

In this edition of my newsletter I'm going to share with you 5 templates that I have curated and tested on LinkedIn.

They work! Each time I use them the number of interactions, comments and impressions are at least double the usual number, sometimes more.

Each template has examples of how I've used them in the past and is easy to just insert your own text and stories. You can also make a copy of the Google doc for each one to make it easier to edit.

I want to acknowledge that some of the inspiration for these came from others like Justin Welsh (my favourite creator) Jon Brosio (who opened my eyes to aesthetic copy) and Josh Fechter (a master copywriter when it comes to LinkedIn posts).

To download an editable version of each template click the one(s) you want to use below:

‘How to’ posts work well on LinkedIn. I use them a lot!?

The examples below are posts that can be used to send the reader on to an article or video you have that goes deeper on the subject and then has a stronger call to action at the end to have them take the next step with you on the journey to becoming a client.

Notice that I don’t write anything about the link being in the comments or clicking anywhere.?

This is because the algorithm is smart enough to know when you add links in comments and point people there to take them away from LinkedIn.?

This is when your posts get penalised and the reach gets limited.

If you don’t have somewhere to send them, just edit the last line or leave it out altogether. If done well, even a short post is valuable to your audience.

2 - The Rant

No alt text provided for this image

This type of post works well if your posts are normally positive because people don’t expect you to be negative. When you are they pay attention.

Our brains are wired to look out more for negative things rather than positive ones so it gets attention when you do it. Use it sparingly though. You don't want to be labelled as a whiner!

It works best with a theme that you know affects your audience. Finish by asking your audience what they do in the same situation. This stimulates discussion.

In the example below I chose to pick a fight with people not showing up for discovery calls because it affected me that week and I know it affects my audience.

Template

{I’M GOING TO RANT - hint to your audience this might be shocking}

{QUESTION ABOUT WHY THE NEGATIVE THING HAPPENS}

I've had {NEGATIVE THING HAPPEN} and I'm feeling very frustrated by it!

I get that {IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES IT CAN HAPPEN}, but those things should be exceptions.

I don't even mind so much when [IT HAPPENS FOR A GOOD REASON} but at least they're apologetic about it.

Most of the people that {DO THE NEGATIVE THING DO SOMETHING ELSE THAT ADDS INSULT TO INJURY}. That's just rude!

It's not just the {EFFECT OF THE NEGATIVE THING)? but it's {THE ADDITIONAL EXAGGERATED EFFECTS}.

{TELL THE READER HERE WHY IT IS SO BURDENSOME}.

{EXAGGERATE THE EFFECTS THE NEGATIVE THING HAS}.

I'm tired of {NEGATIVE THING} so I've decided to do 4 things:

1. {THE 1ST THING TO STOP THE NEGATIVE THING HAPPENING}.

2. {THE 2ND THING TO STOP THE NEGATIVE THING HAPPENING}.

3. {THE 3RD THING TO STOP THE NEGATIVE THING HAPPENING}.

4. {THE 4TH THING TO STOP THE NEGATIVE THING HAPPENING}.

Hopefully, that will cut down the {NEGATIVE THING}!

OK, rant over - thanks for letting me vent! ??

I'm curious, how do you handle {NEGATIVE THING}? And what do you do to minimise it?

Example

I'm sorry but I'm going to have a little rant today...

Why do people book calls and then not show up?

I've had 5 no-shows this week and I'm feeling very frustrated by it!

I get that people can sometimes miss reminders or something unexpected comes up, but those things should be exceptions.

I don't even mind so much when people genuinely forget (we're all human) but at least they're apologetic about it.

Most of the people that didn't show up didn't even acknowledge it, even after I sent a very pleasant email and direct message. That's just rude!

It's not just the time lost preparing for the call etc. that really does the damage, but it's everything else around it.

It takes a very different kind of energy to serve someone on a call than it does to create a piece of content or work on something technical in your funnel, for example.

Someone missing a 30-minute call can end up costing a few hours of lost productivity!

I'm tired of people not respecting my time so I've decided to do 4 things:

1. Make it way harder for people to book calls with me by 'tightening up' my application form and kicking out the tyre-kickers based on how they answer my questions.

2. Tag people who don't show up for a call in my CRM so that they have to jump through hoops to book a second time with me.

3. Make sure the SMS reminder option is available for all bookings from my booking system

4. Send a direct message to people ahead of the call to confirm they will actually make it!

Hopefully, that will cut down the no-shows!

OK, rant over - thanks for letting me vent! ??

I'm curious, how do you handle no-shows? And what do you do to minimise them?

3 - Polarisation

No alt text provided for this image

This type of post works because it will split your audience and generate debate in the comments when done well. This in turn will increase the number of impressions.

It helps if it’s a topic that talks directly about your audience. It helps even more if your view goes against the grain.

Don’t set out to purposely upset people though. This isn’t the intention. And as you’ll see, when you explain your point, it should make sense.

Template 1

{STATEMENT THAT WILL POLARISE YOUR AUDIENCE}.

{STATEMENT THAT OPPOSES THE PREVIOUS ONE}.

{QUESTION THAT GIVES PERSPECTIVE TO THE OPPOSING STATEMENT}?

I've {DONE THIS THING THAT QUALIFIES ME TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT}.

1. {DETAIL 1 OF WHAT I’VE FOUND}.

2. {DETAIL 2 OF WHAT I’VE FOUND}.

3. {DETAIL31 OF WHAT I’VE FOUND}.

4. {DETAIL 4 OF WHAT I’VE FOUND}.

5. {DETAIL 5 OF WHAT I’VE FOUND}.

If you're {TRYING TO DO THE THING THE OPPOSING STATEMENT TALKS ABOUT}, to me at least, it seems like you'd do well to adopt all these traits. Are you up for that?

I'd love to know if you agree or disagree with any of this. Tell me in the chit chat, please.

Example

Becoming a coach is easy.

Creating a business around it is not.

Why do most coaches scrape by while only a few thrive and prosper?

I've spoken to thousands and worked with hundreds of coaches over the last few years and there are some commonalities I see that seem to differentiate successful coaches from not-so-successful coaches.

1. Successful coaches have an absolute unshakable belief that they can get incredible results for their clients while charging them high fees and building a thriving coaching business.

2. They work in a niche, are crystal clear about whom they do and don't work with, and understand that niche's problems and desires.

3. They are consistent. They plan all the activities needed to run their business and execute them every day.

4. They realise that to build a successful coaching business, it's not enough to be an awesome coach. They also need to become awesome entrepreneurs and that's exactly what they do.

5. Successful coaches don't try to figure it all out on their own. They get help from someone who's done it before them and can show them the way, saving them time and unnecessary frustration.

If you're a coach and you want to be successful, to me at least, it seems like you'd do well to adopt all these traits. Are you up for that?

I'd love to know if all you coaches out there agree or disagree with any of this. Tell me in the chit chat, please. ??

Template 2

{DOING THIS THING} is easy.

I'm sorry, but it {IS/ISN’T/DOES/DOESN’T}.

And I know it upsets a {PORTION OF YOUR AUDIENCE}. But I'm sticking to it. Wanna know why?

These days, {DO THIS THING}, you just have to {SOMETHING EXAGGERATEDLY SIMPLE}. That's it.

It doesn't matter {WHAT/HOW MUCH/HOW FEW}? you {HAVE/DO/SAY/THINK}.

{THIS THING IS STILL AS IT IS}.

What's NOT easy though is actually {SPECIFIC PART OR DETAIL OF THE THING}.

It takes a {LIST OF DIFFICULT THINGS TO DO THIS PART OR DETAIL}.

I've spoken to {YOUR AUDIENCE} and when it comes {SPECIFIC PART OR DETAIL OF THE THING} I see them struggle most {AUDIENCE’S BIGGEST PROBLEM}.

So I've created something to help with just that.

{DESCRIPTION OF YOUR THING - CAN BE FREE OR PAID}

Example

Being a coach is easy.

I'm sorry, but it is.

And I know it upsets a lot of coaches when I say it. But I'm sticking to it. Wanna know why?

These days, to be a coach, you just have to say you're a coach. That's it.

It doesn't matter how many (or how few) hours you put into learning your trade, or what qualifications or certifications you have.

You're still a coach if you say you are.

What's NOT easy though is actually being a coach. Especially a successful one.

It takes a massive amount of self-belief, belief in your clients, a deep understanding of other human beings AND knowing the fundamentals of business.

I've spoken to thousands of coaches over the years and when it comes to their business, the place I see them struggle most is creating leads.

So I've created something to help with just that.

It's a comprehensive, straight-to-the-point, step-by-step online course that teaches you everything you need to know about LinkedIn to create leads for your coaching or consulting business.

If you'd like to know more, you'll find it down below. ??

By the way, it's still on pre-sale at half price until the 15th of November. And it's ridiculously cheap!

4 - Data-Driven

No alt text provided for this image

This type of post works well because you use tangible numbers that may be somewhat shocking or sobering. It’s very important that you can back the numbers up for your credibility and you may even want to quote the source.

Using big numbers that contrast with small ones is particularly effective to create a gap in people’s minds and pull them in to read the whole post.

Template

The {INDUSTRY OR CONCEPT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT} is estimated to be {YOUR FIRST STATISTIC} yet {PEOPLE OR THINGS IN THE INDUSTRY OR CONCEPT} are {DOING SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T FIT THE STATISTIC}

There are 3 main reasons for this:

  • {REASON 1}: {SUPPORTING INFORMATION FOR REASON 1}
  • {REASON 2}: {SUPPORTING INFORMATION FOR REASON 2}
  • {REASON 3}: {SUPPORTING INFORMATION FOR REASON 3}

There’s a free guide below to help you find out {OR AVOID} being {UNDESIRED STATE}

[COMMENTS]

{LINK}

Example

The life coaching industry is estimated to be worth $2,400,000,000.? Yet 56% of coaches are earning less than $1,000 per month.?

There are 3 main reasons for this:

  • They don’t have a niche: focusing on a specific group of people means that you can create all your marketing messages for them so that it breaks through the noise and they’re attracted to what you say and offer.
  • They don’t know how to create leads: knowing how to guide a chat or conversation from the very beginning is the difference between creating a client and having a nice coffee with someone that ends up going nowhere.
  • They don’t deeply understand their audience: if you don’t deeply understand your audience’s problems and aspirations you’ll struggle to make yourself heard by them. Research is everything.

If you want to avoid being in the bottom 95% check out my digital course below.

Example

There are 3 things you can do right now on LinkedIn to help grow your network.

Wanna know what they are?

Here you go...

1 - Optimise your profile picture. A good profile picture makes it 7 times more likely that someone will connect with you than if you don't use one at all.

2 - Create a profile video. When people see and hear you in a video they subconsciously feel a stronger human connection with you which leads to higher trust.

3 - Create a voice note. Use the name pronunciation feature to record a note that can include a short call to action. When people hear this they know exactly why they are there.

If you want to know exactly how to do these 3 things, there’s something that shows you how in the chit chat below. ??

It's a short video from my brand new online course - which is still on pre-sale at a ridiculously low price by the way...
