5 Simple Steps to Save Money and Get Ready for the Holiday Season

5 Simple Steps to Save Money and Get Ready for the Holiday Season

Believe it or not, the holiday season is creeping up on us like a cat ready to pounce!

With only 71 days until Halloween, 99 days until Thanksgiving, 126 days until Hanukkah, and 126 days until Christmas (but who's counting, right?), now's the perfect time to get your finances in order.

Here are five easy steps to help you save money and avoid the dreaded post-holiday financial hangover:

1. Create a Holiday Budget

Picture this: You’re at the store, cart overflowing with festive goodies, when reality hits—your bank account isn’t quite as jolly as you are.

Avoid that scenario by setting a budget now. Decide how much you can spend on gifts, decorations, and holiday feasts.

Think of it as your financial GPS, guiding you through the holiday maze without getting lost.

2. Make a Gift List Early

The “naughty or nice” list isn’t just for Santa!

Write down everyone you need to buy gifts for and set a spending limit for each person.

This will help you avoid the last-minute panic shopping where you end up buying something ridiculous (like that singing fish plaque) just to check a name off your list.

3. Start Saving Now

Only 126days until Hanukkah and Christmas! Yikes!

Start setting aside a little money each week—think of it as feeding your holiday piggy bank.

Even if you’re just squirreling away a few bucks at a time, it’ll add up, and you’ll be thanking your past self when the holiday bills start rolling in.

4. Take Advantage of Sales and Discounts

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are basically the Super Bowl of shopping.

Get your game plan ready!

Sign up for newsletters, download apps, and keep your eyes peeled for early sales.

The earlier you start, the less likely you are to end up in a frantic shopping frenzy days before the holiday (trust me, no one wants to see that).

5. Cut Back on Non-Essential Spending

Okay, so that daily latte or extra streaming service is fun, but do you really need them?

Challenge yourself to trim the fat from your budget now.

Every dollar you save by skipping that pumpkin spice latte is a dollar you can use to buy a thoughtful gift—or maybe just treat yourself later. It’s a win-win!

Share with me how YOU are planning ahead and counting down.
