5 Signs It's Time to Look for a New Job

What a terrific long weekend it's been. I feel rested and ready to get back to work.

How about you? Are you excited about going into the office tomorrow? Or are you wishing you never had to return to your workplace?

Another year is about to end, which makes this the perfect time to take stock of where you are and where you want to be.

Here are five signs that it's time to look for a new job (in no particular order).

1. The work you are doing no longer excites you. Every day at work isn't going to be thrilling. However, if you've reached the point where there are few days where you feel energized, then it's time to move on.
2. You've been passed over for a promotion. You worked extremely hard to position yourself for the next available promotion, which went to a co-worker with less experience. You could hang around another year or so and hope you score the next promotion. Or, you could commit to looking for a new opportunity.
3. Everyone around you is leaving. It seems like each week someone in your department is giving notice. Perhaps they know something you don't. Or, they're getting out, before the department is shut down or moved to a location you don't want to relocate to. You could wait to see what happens. Or, you could take charge of your destiny and move on while you're still gainfully employed.
4. Your new boss is a tyrant. People are telling you that you should stick it out. Those people are wrong. No one deserves to work for a boss who has little respect for his people.
5. You're scanning job openings on LinkedIn. Things must be pretty bad at work for you to be spending your long holiday weekend viewing job openings. This is a clear sign it's time to get serious about your job search.
