 Who I am...

 Before we go too much further, let me take a moment and introduce myself so you know who I am and why I and others seem to believe that I know what I am talking about.

 

 

I am an entrepreneur and business owner and I have helped my clients achieve everything from $5 million dollar valuations in under three years to having fully operational hands-off business in under two months. I have worked with hundreds of small business owners and I have been called the “Wendy Rhodes” to CEOs and organizations (Wendy Rhodes is a fictional character in Showtime’s series, Billions. The character is a resident/in-house coach to a hedge fund where she helps the CEO and employee’s hit their goals by playing with their minds so that they can, get past their fears, grow in business and as a person). 

 DISCOVERING THE 5 SHIFTS

 Let me take a second to tell you how I discovered the 5 shifts.

 Being an entrepreneur for a long time and having invested thousands of dollars in learning and work with coaches myself, I paid close attention to the form that success took. I myself specialize in helping entrepreneurs and small business owners build businesses in a way that makes them grow, see consistent income and become easily scalable while also removing them from the day to day so they can experience true time and financial freedom. 

 Over time, I started to realize that those who are getting the best results are the ones that are doing things differently. It seemed that most people did the average understood things and got average results. In working with clients over and over again, I realized there were some basic, consistent and key shifts that my most successful clients underwent in order to exceed their goals faster than the others.

 

THE FIVE SHIFTS.

 Let me take you through those five shifts now.

 SHIFT ONE: Adapt To The Long Term Success Mindset.

 If you want a truly successful business, go back to the basics. While most people preach to get to the money first and worry about everything else second, I disagree. To run it and gun it just to make money is the old mindset of “get money now, fix it later.” Why would anyone do this when those actions alone could possibly put your business in jeopardy so that it doesn’t make it past 6 months or one year? Why would anyone do that when just taking two hours could prevent that all from happening?

 There are some basic business things you can do that do not take a ton of time to make sure your get it right the first time and don’t have to hire and pay someone like me $30k for 2-3 months of work where I spend most of my time bringing you back to the basics in order to move forward.

 You are now a business owner! You need to understand that you are in the long-game, not the short game. You need to know your company or the company you seek to build with clarity. What is your company’s Vision, Values, Mission statement/purpose? Go ahead and draft that one-page business plan and financial plan. Formulating this information could take less than one hour. Why would you not spend one hour now and potentially save your entire company down the line.

 Today’s successful startups and companies that are growing in a smooth and sustainable way, all have this down. They tend to have happy workers that know their purpose, show up and perform and don’t go over budget.

 While the old method might feel like success, you have immediate income and know you can do it and somehow it works, it puts you in a position of becoming overworked, hating the work and not being able to extricate yourself from the day to day since you are doing everything, all the time. It also puts you in a position to fail. You will become over busy, customers will fall through the cracks, your business reputation will waiver if not sink due to your non-responsiveness or inability to get the job done, killing your credibility and losing business.

 The stakes are high: if you want to continue with the old mindset and limit yourself and potentially kill your reputation that is your option.

 Or you can take one hour of your time and do it right the first time.

  

SHIFT 2: Embrace Abundance

Your deepest, truest self already screamed out to you to take the leap and own a business. Maybe you saw the writing on the wall that this would be the best way for you to have the life and lifestyle you want. Maybe you know that this business can help millions of people around the world. Maybe you just know that you do not want to work for someone else and that is not going to be of value to you in the long run. Whatever the reason, you know this is your path in this moment.

But in order to create the life and lifestyle you want through operating your business, you have to shift your beliefs.

 One of the beliefs that must shift is Scarcity versus abundance. 

 You have to have an abundance mindset. Getting rid of scarcity is key.

 All of us have fear. Fear of the unknown, Fear that there are no guarantees, Fear that we might fail, etc. And it is Fear that causes a scarcity mindset. This scarcity mindset then triggers other behaviors that create losing outcomes. 

 When you are focused on your fears, fear you may run out of money, fear your marketing won’t work and you run out of money, fear you are competing against bigger companies with more resources, fear that you or your market may be too small, etc. When you let fears control your thinking, you make poor business decision. You act in accordance with those fears and that tends to sink your company or at minimum, put it behind the proverbial 8 Ball.

 Stop focusing on the things you don’t want and truly commit to have the things you do want.

 By shifting to a mindset of true abundance you will begin to see opportunities you would have otherwise missed, and even more importantly, you will act on them instead of letting them pass you by.

 

SHIFT 3: Use A Secret Weapon

We all know the things in our business that we love to do and we all know what we totally despise and are simply not skilled at. We know that when we force ourselves to do the things we hate, we spend more time and make more mistakes… so why do them?

 Outsource the things you hate. Find someone who loves to do those things and have them do it for your company. This is the fastest and easiest way to begin to “buy back” your time. Doing this does more than just give you extra hours each day. It also helps to keep yourself in good spirits with high vibrational energy. When you do things that you can’t stand, make you miserable, you essentially fail at, you put your company even further back and risk errors, you bring stress into your body, you drain your energy, becoming more tired and you begin to become unmotivated and lose steam to power ahead. But, when you do not have to do these miserable, but essential tasks every day, you get to stay in your zone and get more done.

 

CASE STUDY Michael, A Real Estate Investor in the USA, had a fix and flip business and a development company. He decided to engage in a third vertical, wholesaling. He did this so he could make additional revenue while having the ability to “cherry pick” his fix and flip and development deals. He started the wholesaling business and he even closed his first deal within the first 30 days or so, AND THEN HE QUIT!!!!???? 

It was way more work than he originally believed it would be. He went from living his dream life to a living hell. He went from being on his own time to all of a sudden working like 8-9 hours a day. He went from peace and tranquility to becoming reactive, chasing down calls. He was done. He hadn’t spent all that time to build his dream life, only to add third business that crushed him. He wished it could be easier, he wished someone could about 90 % of the work. 

 He did not hire anyone because he believed that it was too soon to hire someone. How could he hire and train anyone if he could not guarantee them a specific amount of hours? How can he hire and train people when he did not even know 100% exactly what they were supposed to be doing? He had no systems in place and did not want to spend his days trying to figure out the new CRM, Calling Management service, marketing, etc. But after working with me and making the shift, he leveraged the secret weapon and walked away, in less than two months’ time, with a fully operational business that he spends less than an hour a day managing.

SHIFT 4: Consciously Engineer Your Outcome

Goal, goals, goal, blah blah blah. We know, we should set our goal, write it down and just magically arrive there.

 Well, yes. You should.

You need to be intentional. Conscious about where you wish to end up. What is the specific outcome you seek?

Written goals, tend to force you to “consciously engineer your outcome.”

I have my clients look at both the long term and the short term. As a successful business owner you have to keep your eye on the prize while driving the company via mini sprints to that long term goal. 

There are a million different ways to set a goal. Most of the goal setting techniques out there are effective in getting you to solidify your goal and create your plan on how you will get there. I tend to approach things in a bit more of a holistic way, as do my most successful clients, but simply having the clarity of the end goal and mapping your path is a basic function most people do not do. They have it in their heads, not on paper and they tend to go by their “feelings” more than the facts. That is when they begin to miss the mark, start to slip then lack results. This in turn, bums them out causing them to give up or continue to spin their wheels.

 The very basic thing you should have a written answer to is…

 Where do you want to be in one year? What is your desired outcome?

What must you accomplish in the next 90 days to remain on track to hit that one year outcome?

How will you accomplish those tasks that need to be completed in the next 90 days?

Be conscious of your end game and intentionally engineer your path to that result. 

 

Shift 5: Invest In Your Success

 Support is key.

 You are likely reading this because you want a different outcome. You desire transformation.

You know that you do not want to remain stuck in your current place.

What is it costing you to not get your desired outcome?

-          Maybe your business will not grow.

-          Maybe you will become in debt.

-          Maybe your business will fold and you will be in debt.

-          Maybe your dreams of time freedom, spent with loving family and making great memories, will slowly disappear because you never got this business fully operational and out of your hands.

-          Maybe your relationships will suffer.

-          Maybe you will work until your health pays the price.

Take a physician for example, a physician makes about $200,000 per year but it takes them over a decade to get that far and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition. They get there by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others. They pay for the education so that they can not only have the basic knowledge necessary to be minimally effective, they continue to pay to excel and learn so they can become world class and Board Certified.

Trying to do it all on your own is crazy and anyone at the top, be it sports, medicine, business or any field, has invested in themselves and gotten expert help.  Doing it on your own, doesn't leverage the experience of others who have already done it. Doing it on your own causes you to play small and make mistakes that you could have avoided.

 I am a coach. And even I have personally invested over $25,000 in my own coaching. I intentionally find the best coaches and mentors and each year I up my game making myself completely uncomfortable at the expense. All the normal questions and fears go through my mind, is it really worth it, what will it really bring me, won’t this money be better suited towards “real” marketing dollars. But, I always end with this, “are you committed or are you not?” And of course, the answer is that I am in. I am committed to growing not only myself but my business. I am not just interested, I am committed because I know what I do helps hundreds of people each year who’s businesses in turn help hundred if not thousands more. This is necessary for me to get to the next level and if you are serious about growing, get uncomfortable, put skin in the game and undergo the transformation you desire. Without skin in the game motivation does not last.
