5 Science based practical steps to reducing stress!

5 Science based practical steps to reducing stress!

It can be relentless can't it!

Are you working really long hours but still not getting anywhere? If anything, that to-do list is getting longer rather than shorter?

I suspect you’re feeling pretty beaten up by it all too. Especially when it can seem like everyone wants a piece of you? Text, WhatsApp, Messenger and email messages coming in left, right and centre? And you just want to shout, ‘leave me alone’ ……but feel guilty for even thinking that? You’re desperately craving a well needed break, but have no idea how you could possibly fit that in?

I totally know that feeling!!

“You’ve just got to be more resilient”
- I’m told!!
“Stop being so sensitive and worrying about everything”. “Don’t take things so personally”
they say!
“Go with the flow!”

Grrr….  thanks for that, totally helps......??

That picture used to be me all the time, to the point where eight years ago in my corporate career as a Leadership Coach and trainer at Tesco, I got really ill.

Stress-head Steph was my nickname. I worried about everything! Always focusing on the negative, and constantly getting overwhelmed by my emotions. In the end this led me to developing major problems with my digestion which then stopped me being able to do my job very well (which subsequently caused me even more stress). I was also unable to be there for my friends and family as much as I’d like, and was desperately unhappy, feeling stuck and pretty alone.

The good news is, that’s all changed now. And not because I’ve become tech free, ditched all my friends and am blissing out on some island in Fiji.

In fact, I’m probably busier than I ever have been, with more people pulling on my time than there ever was. I’m seven years into running my own coaching business, and in the process of building an online business – can’t really be free of tech to do that.

And whilst I still worry, I’m much happier. I am more focused and am finding much more joy, and meaning in my life, as well as spending more time doing what I love and being around people who I love. I’m also earning more money than I ever dreamed I would, and I’m not killing myself in the process.

So, what did I do to get through all that? How did I change?

Well I basically found a new way to think about stuff. I learnt more about the human brain and how emotions work, and in doing so developed a greater understanding of how to manage them.

I did loads of research around stress and resilience. I read books and blogs, and attended workshops by leading thinkers in fields like neuroscience and positive psychology. I also had some counselling around my own anxiety too. And best of all, I started to coach and teach around this topic. They often say that we teach what we most need to learn, and in helping others, I’ve ended up at times being more a student than a teacher.

One of the major things that frustrated me though, was that most of the advice out there on managing stress, was not that easy or practical to apply to my life at work or at home. A real shame, as it was all great stuff.

So, from everything I researched, I identified 5 tangible activities that I have seen make the biggest and most significant difference to managing stress, and that I could easily apply to my daily life.

I've created a short 2 hour course that you can do online and that will take you through each step and how you can apply it to your life. The course is broken down into 7 manageable chucks or modules. Each module on average is 20 minutes in length.

I've also got an offer on at the moment.

Normally this course is priced at £197, but for a limited time (until May 31st), I’m offering a whopping 85% off, making it just £27.

Why not take a look by following the link below and use the code resilience27 at the checkout.

BTW when you click the link, the platform I host my course on (Thinkific) will ask you to create an account. This takes 5 seconds to do and will just allow you to access the course.

This Introduction to Resilience course will help you to:

  • Understand the science behind stress and our emotions
  • Overcome the barriers that stop you looking after your own well-being
  • Use 5 practical steps to get back in control and manage stress better

The 5 activities (or steps) detailed in this course have done both me and my clients well, no matter what level of worry or stress they have felt.

Take Ollie for instance. Ollie first came to me wanting to be more himself at work, which meant in part, overcoming his worry about presenting his ideas in front of more senior people. This is what he said:

“One of the things that I really appreciated with Steph is her in depth knowledge of the "science" of what's going on inside your brain when you react to different situations, particularly when thinking about resilience. For me, it made it acceptable and normal to feel as I did and this helped me devise a way to take control of and overcome the things worrying me”
Oliver Banks - Retail Consultant

Last month I also spoke about this approach as part of the Careers Week at Harrods, here’s what Kamilla, who attended the session, said:

“I had the pleasure of attending Steph’s workshop about resilience at work and taking 5 steps towards a happier you. Fully engaging and inspirational, it left me planning on improving my own emotional well-being ??Thank you, Steph!”
Kamila Fedorowicz - Senior Sales Associate - Harrods

So why not take a look at the course. I really believe in these steps. They have had a huge impact on my life and the life of my clients.

I would love to know what you think too, so let me know how you get on.

Steph x

I think it's a mix of things. Sometimes workload can be so ridiculously heavy that emotional agility isn't enough. Employers also need to think about how much they expect their people to do.

Oh. My God. Those bits at the beginning. Being told to be more resilient, grow a thicker skin... have you been a fly on my wall???

Steph, I so love reading your stuff for one simple reason. I believe it. That's so rare when it comes to all the advice that gets shared on mental health and positive thinking. It's human and it's honest. Stay you. Always x
