5 Resume Hacks That Can Make Your Resume Screening a Success!

Whenever one has to apply for the job the first point of concern for every candidate or applicant is, " Will my resume get shortlisted?"

But what if there was a resume-making guideline that could make a more effective difference in the result and help you get more opportunities than the rest around you.

In this article I have tried to bring out the top 5 hacks that anyone making their resume can use to make their resume more worthy of shortlisting.

  1. Length of the Resume: It is evident that most of the people who write their resume are not sure how to create a resume which is purely productive, some try to keep it concise and loose the quality and some try to elaborate ad end up losing its flavor. So how short or long should our resume be??? Well, the answer is based on scientific research published all over the internet that the best written resume are with a word count between 475- 600 words. So try to keep the word length in this bracket.
  2. Concreteness of the Content: Whenever we talk of content on the resume we always hear people say it should be precise and concise, I would add one more adjective to it- concrete. It is because concrete content leads to clear understanding. If a person is mentioning about their skills in the resume then they need to talk in a concrete and measurable manner. Add measurability to your descriptions and use numbers and data wherever possible! When the reader is able to gauge the level of your skills by reading it adds to your impression on them and increase chances of hiring.
  3. Using Keywords: A research on the internet has shown that resumes need to have the well- balanced equation of keywords in both the genres- hard skills and soft skills. Researches have also found that most of the resumes would have a heavy presence of hard skills but would be extremely under- indexed on the soft skills part. More so that most of the resumes just have skills listed without any logical mention. This might get you shortlisted via the ATS but would be the reason of no interview call after human intervention.
  4. Referencing: I am sure many of you would be surprised by the point heading, but hold on I am not talking of mentioning human references. I am talking about creating a new age reference point on your profile- the links of profiles from professional networks like the LinkedIn or the GitHub or any other profile that speaks about your professional development. presence of such links gives you a bigger chance to be shortlisted via reference checks! So go on add the best 2 links...
  5. Get Rid of the Fluff: This happens to be one of the reasons that the recruiters these days are saying that the death of resumes is evident, but if resumes are filtered properly before saving and not just on grammar and spell-checks but also on how the resume sounds when you read it, the resume can do wonders for you. Get rid of all exaggeration and overwhelm in the resume and keep it humble, measurable and to the point realistic. These are the 5 hacks one can use to create what the recruiters would call a "Powerful Resume" as the outcome of using the above steps will surely create a document that speaks for you with a practical and realistic attitude.Try it and share it with anyone who needs it!

Good points...mentioned. But don't you think that it's not easy to restrict to 600 words when a professional has 9 or more than 9 yrs of experience and so many certificates to mention on a resume? ...would like to hear your thoughts.
