5 Red Flags for Lead Generation

5 Red Flags for Lead Generation

Throughout 2024 so far, it seems every other email and InMail promises unparalleled lead generation success. However, I want to make sure that you navigate with caution. I receive atleast 20 emails weekly, that all seem the same but 97% of which will never achieve what they state.

Today I wanted to offer a guide on your lead generation path to ensure you don’t waste your valuable time and money on ventures that won’t succeed.

So here are my top 5 biggest red flags:

1. The 'Done-For-You' Mirage

Beware of anyone promising a cookie-cutter formula to deliver a fixed number of clients monthly. Such claims often overlook your specific business model, the length of your sales cycle, and the specifics of your target market. This one-size-fits-all approach is a recipe for disappointment - they're likely to over promise and under-deliver.

2. The Guarantee Gamble

A guarantee of X number of leads might sound enticing, but it's a red flag. Quality over quantity is the mantra here, as those offering such guarantees may not deliver the high-quality leads you need to generate a real ROI. Through my experience, I've seen too many instances where these guarantees become loopholes exploited at your expense.

3. Authenticity and Transparency

Steer clear of individuals who aren’t transparent in their strategies. An encounter with a business promising great LinkedIn strategies, only to pivot to cold email marketing, taught me the importance of aligning with people who genuinely do what they say.

4. Dated Strategies

Have you ever watched a YouTube video on being effective on LinkedIn and found conflicting advice?

This confusion can be paralysing. Listening to too many people is one of the worst things you can do because it dilutes your efforts as you don’t know what to do.

A better strategy is to find one business coach or mentor you trust and believe in, and then ignore everyone else. This focus will ensure commitment and better results.

5. The Testimonial Test

The absence of recent, genuine testimonials is a tell-tale sign to proceed with caution. They are the currency of credibility in our digital age, make sure you’re looking for great recent testimonials from those who you want to work with.

Embarking on a lead generation journey is no small feat if you want it to work long term. It requires a blend of experience, strategy, and attention to your business to succeed. Especially with how quickly the world is evolving you need to work with someone who can adapt to the ever changing business landscape.

If you're refining your current lead generation strategy and not sure who would be best for you, we are always happy to have a quick?15 minute conversation ?to see if we can help. I will let you know if I don’t think it’s a right fit.

Warmly

Ben Ivey Great insights! Your article resonates with me deeply as I receive these unsolicited emails regularly, and I'm sure many others do too. Would it be okay if I reposted this article on my LinkedIn and Instagram? I believe it could benefit my network as well. Thanks for sharing!
