You have been scouring the internet every day applying to job after job. You have been anxiously waiting for the phone to ring. However, silence is all that you get. You receive no phone calls, no emails, nothing! Does this sound familiar to you? Well, you are not alone.?
Hundreds of job seekers struggle to get noticed, let alone get called for an interview. You have the skills and the experience needed for the job. Why is it that you are not getting an interview?
There are a few common mistakes that job seekers make on the applications that get them rejected. Thankfully, these are things that you have the power to change.
?
Your application is sloppy?
Your resume is the first thing that a potential employer will see. Did you know an average recruiter spends only six seconds reading a resume? Can your resume make a good first impression in six seconds?
Grammatical errors, typos, and missing words are some of the common mistakes that job seekers make on resumes. It may seem trivial to you, but it could be a big red flag to recruiters. Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes on your resume show that you lack attention to detail and may not care about quality. It may also seem that you simply rushed through your job application.
Before you submit a job application, ensure to proofread to avoid any such mistakes. Make sure that your formatting is consistent so that it can grab the attention of the recruiter.
?
Your application is incomplete
Leaving fields blank or leaving out information on your job application is yet another reason for rejection. HR professionals spend a considerable amount of time creating and revising these applications. When you leave fields blank, you are leaving the recruiter or hiring manager with less information than other candidates. Leaving gaps in your information and not answering the required questions means that you are forcing the hiring team to fill in the blanks for you.

Leaving fields blank on a job application also shows that you lack attention to detail or that you simply don’t care. In both cases, tossing your application is an easy way for a recruiter to cut down the number of applications to be considered.
?
Your application is difficult to read
An average recruiter only spends a few seconds reading through your resume. So, you want your resume to be as succinct as possible. If your entire resume is in paragraph form, your application is bulky and difficult to read through. The recruiter may not invest the time to read through the entire thing and miss out on important achievements or skills that make you the ideal candidate for the job. Use bullet points instead. Bullet points help draw the attention of recruiters to important points while allowing them to read through your resume faster.
?
You did not include relevant information
Tailoring your resume to the job is crucial. A tailored resume helps you stand out among the thousands of generic resumes that a recruiter receives every day. Your resume must highlight your most relevant skills and experiences to show that you fit the job requirements well. Tailoring your resume also shows a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the job. It shows that you took extra time and effort to showcase the best qualifications and skills needed for the job.
Not including relevant information on your resume is a sure-shot way of getting your application rejected.
?
Your application looks lazy
If you want your inbox filled with interview calls, you must put some effort into your resume. The ideal resume should be able to give a recruiter a quick but detailed look into who you are and what you can offer. Offering the obvious information like where you worked and what you did is not going to make your resume stand out. Hiring managers want to see results. Show them your accomplishments, especially the ones that resonate with the job you are applying to. When you have the chance to expand and give more information, take advantage. Do not sell yourself short.
