Right, I must confess in year 2012, I didn't gave LinkedIN a chance to sustain its presence in the market. I thought this platform will fade away with time but I was wrong, completely!

Not only had it grown but is now among the top platforms in Social Media Marketing. I knew it was getting bigger when a person like Gary Vaynerchuck was posting on it on daily basis, it means it has gas.

Still just to see how big it has become or is becoming, I pulled out some statistics and I was astonished. This platform is rising as fast as any other platform present on Social media. This is why since last 18 months, I have been dedicating a hell lot of time in engaging and interacting on it and to be honest, I am not disappointed.

Now, I am not urging you to use this platform because I am using it rather, I have pulled out some stats that will leave in awe of this platform.

So here are Super 5 reasons why you should start concentrating on your LinkedIn profile:

  1. According to Hubspot LinkedIn is 277% more effective at generating leads than Facebook and Twitter.
  2. 90% of recruiters regularly use LinkedIn
  3. 98% of Content marketers use Linked In for content marketing, especially for B2B marketing and Lead generation.
  4. 60 Million LinkedIn users are Senior level influencers and 40 million are in decision making positions.
  5. 91% of marketing executives list LinkedIn as a top place to find quality content

Wow, the world of opportunities is sitting right there. The best part about all this is that still a lot of people are unsure about this platform but that is fine. If you are reading this, it means you are on this platform, which means you have a chance to go a step ahead if you play this well.

So using my experience and experiences of people who have made it big , I am putting down 5 hacks you can use to give your profile a chance to grow on LinkedIn.

  1. Starting with profile, the single most imperative thing on this platform, take this seriously. Some people put up their party pick and wonder why no one is taking them seriously. This a professional platform so try to be as professional as possible. Use professional profile pic. Write an impressive headline. List out your achievements. Complete your summary. Give as much information about your work skills as possible. If you want people to know about you, tell them.
  2. Right, no matter how big a platform is, it craves for interaction and LinkedIn is no different. So make sure you interact and leave lots of meaningful comments on other people content. Here is one cool tip to find the topics you can really get into and comment. If you check on the right side of your page, you will something like:

This section depicts all the trending topics that are being discussed on this channel. So, you have the content and audience all you need is do some search on the topics people are discussing and leave a meaningful comment. Trust me, I have been doing this and getting quite good results.

3. Send invites, but personalize them. People don't like to interact with strangers. So, before sending a Connect request just do some homework. Study the profile of the person. See if you share any common interest. Compose a nice message with a personal touch and send the request. Chances are only 1 out 10 people you send request to will reply, but that is what you want. On all social media platforms it takes time to build a good relationship. So be patient and keep doing the good work.

4. Own your media, get videos out. Now this is something that I also need to do more aggressively. The trend of videos is rising on LinkedIn. Most Vloggers, bloggers and influencers are using this medium to interact with their audiences. So, why should you miss out. Break down your Macro content into Micro bits and put it on video. Unlike Facebook, the trend of videos had only picked up on LinkedIn recently. So you have a great chance to make an impression, if you are regular with your content.

5. Now, of all the stats I mentioned above, I saved 1 Interesting stat for this point, which is, Long form Contents gets maximum share. Yes, ever since LinkedIn turned into a Content platform, it has opened tremendous opportunities. The number of views your Content can get on this platform is amazing. Trust me, this is a hotline at the minute. Not many people are using this feature smartly. You can really build a great set of audience and name for yourself on this platform if you manage your content strategy around this platform. As mentioned from above stats that there are some heavy weights present on this platform, so if you can make a right noise you can actually be heard.

LinkedIn is a great platform if you are willing to use it wisely. For job seekers as well this platform opens some wonderful opportunities only if you are willing to walk that extra mile, like instead of putting a resume you can put up your work. Mention the skills, explain the problems you have solved. Always remember to go that extra bit in explaining your worth. This is a great moment to establish a great momentum on this platform, so gear up and get started.
