5 reasons why World Quality Day is critical to the future of energy
Today, November 12, marks World Quality Day (WQD) and this year’s theme is "creating customer value." Our teams at Baker Hughes join hundreds of other companies this week to celebrate WQD, but this year has given us even more reason to focus on quality – to take energy forward. Not only are we facing new ways of working due to COVID-19, but many of us across the energy industry have accelerated our plans for a net-zero emissions future. Quality is critical to making these plans a safe and long-lasting reality.
In recognition of WQD, I thought I’d share five ways Quality is critical to taking energy forward. Let me know what you think:
1. Quality keeps us focused on our customers – quality is critical to delivering the best quality products and services to not only meet, but exceed, our customers’ expectations, and it puts us in close alignment with their goals, too.
2. Quality ensures compliance with evolving external standards – with new energy frontiers emerging, including hydrogen and CCUS, quality is core to innovation to ensure the highest levels of safety and performance across our operations and in compliance with external requirements– for ourselves, our customers, and the community.
3. Quality drives us to perform flawlessly – performing every job right, every time – and stopping work when it doesn’t meet our expectations – allows us to reduce costs and improve efficiencies in a safe environment. Ultimately, enabling more value creation for customers and allowing the energy industry to continue powering the world without issue.
4. Quality means we always aim to improve – there is no “end” to our focus on quality, but only continuous improvement, leading us to always perform better and deliver stronger, year after year.
5. Quality is good business – the famous saying from Warren Buffet “it takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it” is certainly true. With a dedication to quality, we can ensure our reputation is maintained and we can take measured risks without destroying everything we’ve worked hard to achieve.
What other ways can Quality help take energy forward? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
