Most of the time when you are performing a task, what are you thinking? Is your thinking related to the work you are doing or is your mind travelling places? If we pay attention, we will find, most of the time these two activities are not in sync with each other, they are mutually exclusive.
Now, the second question is, with all the chatter and havoc in the mind, can we focus or give our cent per cent to that task? Obviously not! If our mind is changing gears continuously the efficiency will reduce significantly. Now you will say, you don’t think, it just happens to you, random thoughts come out of nowhere and you have no control over it.
Third and the last question is can you have control over these thoughts and how? The answer to the third question is yes, we can. Wouldn’t it be unfortunate if we become slaves of our minds?
Mindfulness is the key that will unlock so many closed doors in your life, which you never knew that existed. Being mindful is about being aware, aware of everything which is within, and everything that is outside, it is being in the present. It is a state of non-attachment and non-judgemental to the thoughts which come to our minds. They will come, but if we don’t get ourselves attached to them, gradually they will fade away and we can concentrate and focus on what we were doing.
Mindfulness not only increases our effectiveness but it brings with itself numerous benefits, and these are listed below.
1.?INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY
The wandering mind will keep forgetting things. It happens to all of us most of the time that we forget things, where we kept them, and what are we supposed to pick from the room, where we stand cluelessly, it is nothing but thoughts drifting away
If you are mindful, you are present in the moment. And remember, the present is the only truth, there is no past or future. All your senses are alert and you are aware. Your mind is not drifting away. You are doing what you are doing with complete and undivided attention. So, stop connecting and attaching your emotions to those thoughts, just let go of them.
If you are focused, you tend to make no mistakes. So, mindfulness can also decrease room for mistakes substantially, there will be fewer errors.
Mindfulness will tune out all the garbage and research shows that it improves our memory and ability to recall information, wring of the brain also improves significantly.
2.?STRESS? NO MORE!
There is no doubt that practising mindfulness lowers stress levels significantly. It relaxes our mind, body, and emotions. It is linked to secreting positive chemicals into our system.
Our breath becomes deep, stabilizing the blood pressure and releasing all the unnecessary worries and things that we were anxious about.
Practising mindfulness some time or the other in between our tight schedules (which we rarely do, but we should do), which makes us irritated and agitated by tiny incidents can help lighten our moods.

3.?BRINGS CONTROL
Ask yourself. What do you mostly when you are eating your food. Some of you may be eating while working, some talking and eating and others may be watching TV or something. Very few of us are really mindful of what we eat.
Multitasking is dangerous. If you are engaging yourself in other activities, your mind will be distracted and will somewhat ignore what you are eating. First, you will not know the taste of your food. And second, a distracted brain will send signals to your brain after a delay and in the meantime, you would have eaten beyond what was required by your body. Thirdly, you might not feel full after your meal and that will make you eat more.
This, if happens daily, will make you gain undesired weight and probably obese. But if you are mindful of what you have on the plate, how every bite tastes, your body will send signals when it has received sufficient nutrition. So, practising mindfulness will give provide you with control over yourself. This is not only about food, but everything in general as well.
4.?HELPS IN BUILDING NEW HABITS
We make many promises to ourselves, be it in the new year or at the start of any month. Intentions are god. But having good intentions doesn’t suffice if they are not matched with the required act. And you will act upon them if you are mindful. Otherwise, you will fall into the trap and never make a progress.
Building new habits and dropping out old ones is challenging. They need constant reminders and conscious efforts from our end.
Being mindful will give you the charge, it will realign you to the goals you have in your mind. It helps you make the distance from distractions and old habits.
So, if you want to achieve those desired kilos, finish the book you are reading, give some time to your hobby which brings you happiness, you have to start being mindful in every moment.
5.?FULL PACKAGE OF POSITIVITY
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we experience what life has to offer us in the present with an open heart? If you see children around you, they are always cheered up, joyous and happy. Because they are unknowingly mindful. It is the very nature of humans to be mindful, but as we grow, we make things complicated.
We would be doing things happily. It is time to learn from them, it is time to align ourselves to the very nature of ours, to be mindful.
