5 Reasons Why I Enjoy Working at SimScale

5 Reasons Why I Enjoy Working at SimScale

2022 is coming to an end and it made me reflect on my almost 3 years at SimScale again. First and foremost, I can’t believe it has already been 3 years! Time is flying by, especially when you enjoy what you do. I would be lying if I said it doesn’t get hectic or stressful at times, but looking back at the 3 years I have been at SimScale, I’m really proud and excited about all the things that I was lucky enough to work on and contribute towards. During interviews, I always tell candidates that at SimScale you get the opportunity to see your impact on the company and when I say this, I truly mean it. I have reflected about the (actually more than 5 reasons, but this would exceed the length of a readable article ??) reasons why I enjoy working at SimScale and what makes me even more excited about the future:??

Our Team and Culture

I truly enjoy working in such an international environment. I’ve always had a passion for traveling, getting to know different people and their cultures. Working at SimScale allows me to work in a very diverse environment, where so many different cultures get together and make things happen. It can be as simple as sitting together during lunch time and learning about one of my team member’s home countries - it fascinates me, learning about their background, what excites them and even more so, seeing them grow and get more and more comfortable at SimScale. And not only seeing people progress at SimScale, but giving someone the opportunity to join our team and helping them feel enabled is something I am very proud of. Looking back at the past 3 years and thinking about all of the first interviews I’ve had with people that I now call my team members, I am happy that I? was able to help our teams to recruit and onboard new colleagues.?

Learning and Development

My colleague Daniel from the People Team is our Learning and Development Specialist and has made it possible for SimScale to incorporate a culture that really focuses on learning and development, not just on an informal but on a consistent and regular basis. Throughout the years, there have been many times when I had to get out of my comfort zone, learn about new things and do things I didn’t know about initially. Although I didn’t come from the simulation industry and didn’t know a whole lot about tech recruitment, I now get super excited every time we kick off new roles. It gives me the chance to learn about what my colleagues work on, what’s important in their roles and what they enjoy doing. I once took a Python introduction course and although I didn’t manage to actually learn how to program, I very much enjoyed getting some insights into what developers do on a daily basis. It keeps me stimulated to learn about people’s skills and abilities which is why I particularly enjoy talent acquisition and speaking to many people on a daily basis.?

Career and Growth Opportunities

SimScale may not be like a large company where you have set in stone career opportunities and know exactly where you can be in 2, 5 or even 10 years, but to me, that is great. Growth opportunities come naturally at SimScale and you’re not necessarily given a set of career options, but you rather get the opportunity to create your own path. While we certainly have more common career paths in Sales or Engineering, there are many ways to develop as a professional, move to a different team and/or expand your technical skills. As for myself, I love working in the People Team and getting the opportunity to work outside of? talent acquisition as well. I’ve worked on many different projects, have always been enabled to take more ownership and am now leading our talent acquisition and employer branding activities. SimScale has always listened to my wishes and aspirations and made it possible for me to grow as an individual and as a professional.

Going Above and Beyond?

Another aspect I enjoy at SimScale is the fact that you can go above and beyond if you’re really committed and willing to. It doesn’t mean that you have to work long hours and won’t have a healthy work-life-balance, but you rather get the opportunity to work on very goal-oriented tasks and take ownership. You are given the space to experiment, try things out, fail, get up and continue. If I see the need for change, it’s an environment where I am able to drive change very easily and quickly. Although a lot of my time is spent on recruiting, I get the opportunity to work on other topics in the People Team, learn about new areas and work outside my job description - and this is something you may not necessarily get in larger organizations.?

Last but Not Least - Our Product

I’m not working in the Sales Team (and I’d like to leave it up to my talented colleagues to sell our software), but I still get the opportunity to pitch our product to people who have never heard of SimScale or even to a lot of candidates who are already familiar with the simulation industry. I remember feeling slightly overwhelmed when I joined SimScale in 2020, having to learn about our tech stack, the technical terms, what our teams work on and our product in general. Fast forward 3 years to now, I’ve become very passionate about our product and what all you can do with it. Although I’m not directly involved in the development, I’m very excited and eager to bring people on board who contribute towards making our software even better and convince our customers of its benefits.

Of course, there are many more reasons that keep me excited and joyful about my everyday life at SimScale. But if I were to summarize my experience, I really wouldn’t want to change anything about the past 3 years.?

I saw recently a picture of somebody working from a plane and from multiple places. I reply to the message on Instagram that SimScale is by far the best place to work with such a great life / work balance. That’s the next level of WFH. You guys are doing great for your people giving that great flexibility while still being productive ! Awesome
