After 20-plus years of setting goals, I can tell you that setting significant goals is NOT what's causing more stress and anxiety. What is causing stress and anxiety is your?beliefs?about fear, anxiety, and failure, not goals.
Setting goals is the best thing you can do for yourself.
Yes, it is true; to set goals, you must embark on a new journey that might make you change, sacrifice, and maybe even risk failure.
5 Reasons Why Having the Right Goals in 2023 Is a Must.
1. Goals Keep You Focused
If you aim at nothing, you hit it every time. -Zig Ziglar
Imagine having to shoot an arrow without a target, more importantly, without a bullseye. Where would you aim? What would the purpose be?
This is a literal example of your life without a goal or target, and it wastes energy and effort. You can have all the potential in the world, but with focus (a bullseye,) your abilities and talents are well-spent.
By setting goals for yourself, you give yourself a bullseye. This sense of direction allows your mind to focus on a target rather than shooting aimlessly; it enables you to hit your target and reach your goal.

2. Goals Allow You To Measure Your Progress, Daily
Don't live the same year 75 times and call it a life. — Danielle Carson
If you're going to measure progress, do it right!
Daily, measure your progress through movement toward your goals. It doesn't matter how much you work, only whether that work moves you closer to your goals.
Check at the end of every day that your daily goals are doing what they should, moving you towards your year goals and onto your life goals.
For example, if you work in sales, your daily goal might be to make fifty calls. If that's your goal, sending two hundred emails should not count as progress toward that goal.
What's more, if your bigger goal is to Close sales, and you last did that a few months ago, you may need to rethink if you have the right daily plans.
Maybe?"the number of calls"?doesn't lead to sales. You may need to reset your daily goal to the number of calls to qualified prospects instead. So that your daily goal is putting you in front of eligible customers, making it easier for you to close a sale.
3. Goals Keep You Free From Distractions
By setting goals, you give yourself a mental destination. Having a specific endpoint in mind helps you avoid distractions and stay focused on your goals.

Here is an example. Let's say your goal was to make 48 sales this year. The year is almost over, and you're only one sale away from your destination.
Until you get that sale… Will you be taking any breaks or time off? Will you be going to the movies or sleeping in?
I am sure you answered NO to each of those questions, right? Of course not; you're so focused on getting that last sale that nothing will distract you; nothing will keep you from getting that previous sale and hitting your goal.
You subconsciously keep yourself away from ALL distractions, and your focus remains solely on the goal. This is how you become successful; you set a goal, lock it in, and give it 100%.
Half of knowing what you want knows what you have to give up to get it. — Sidney Howard
4. Goals Help You Deal with Procrastination.
Procrastination is the slow killer of dreams. Procrastination constantly threatens to derail your plans and suck the life out of your momentum. But goals give you the strength you need to beat procrastination.
So, how big of a problem is procrastination?
Recent research has revealed that over 50% of people procrastinate regularly. According to Joseph Ferrari, professor of psychology at De Paul University, 20% of people are?"chronic procrastinators,"?which means they procrastinate to the point that it causes a significant loss of productivity and achievement.
So, how do you reduce procrastination to increase your productivity?
The process of creating goals defines how well you do in life when it comes to dealing successfully with procrastination. Once formed, the habit of goal setting becomes your?default behavior,?and the daily actions that ensue become effortless.
Procrastination is more significant than most people think, and the BEAST derails far too many people's dreams. But, you can deal with it like a superhero by setting goals and creating daily action steps that move you towards weekly, monthly, yearly, and ultimately life success.
5. Goals Create the Motivation and Inspiration You Need to WIN
Most people think the opposite. They wait until they get?motivated?to set goals, which is wrong. No, you use your dreams to boost your daily actions.
One of my favorite people once told me:?"If your goals aren't driving what you do daily, you will always be the 2nd best version of yourself."
Goals create the motivation you need daily to achieve personal success to help you achieve your BEST self.
Real success is being motivated to give your best today no matter what happened yesterday.
Goals applied correctly help you overcome the negativity in your life and around your life that will rob your motivation. Listen to me; it's impossible to achieve your life goals and not be motivated?DAILY!
Goals are necessary to motivate you daily. Motivated positive feelings move you toward success in life. Where does that motivation come from?
It comes from reviewing your goals EVERY MORNING! Goals are the?fuel in the furnace of achievement. The more you check them, the more you achieve and the more motivated you become.
Motivation doesn't exist without the hope of a better future, i.e., LIFE GOALS!
