Reason 1: Women leaders outperform men on average during a crisis.
It's a no-brainer. More women in decision making positions means a more secure future for every organisation.
During the pandemic (remember that).
During the pandemic Forbes magazine examined 122 speeches and discovered that male leaders chose to describe the crisis as though it was a war with fear and casualties as the main drivers of content.
When the women leaders were also analysed, including New Zealand's Jacinda Ardern, Germany's Angela Merkel and other female leaders from Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark and Taiwan they took a completely different approach. Instead the importance of family, children, and the most vulnerable members of society took centre stage. The overall them was about community, caring and pulling together to help each other.
Who would you rather listen to during a crisis?
Reason 2: Women make better leaders in the workplace.
If you Google the facts, research shows tons of examples why women leaders do much better than males in identical jobs.
Did you know... women rated much higher when dealing with a crisis, taking charge, sticking to principles, being transparent and bringing their team closer together?
Reason 3: Most men in tech can't/ won't recruit women peers.
The business world has finally gone tech and data mad. Once upon a time CFO's became the most likely candidates for CEOs because they are usually the best qualified candidates in the company, they drive the bottom line (finances) in all big decisions and they understand the ROI impact of all additional staff, equipment and systems.
Now CIOs are the key decision maker when it comes to software, hardware and selecting the key systems worth investing in for a successful future. Now they control the pursestrings of the company or at least heavily influence them. They should replace CFOs as the next potential CEO except for 2 reasons...
1) They don't have enough knowledge about the other departments to manage them.
2) They are not usually very empathetic and typically prefer a laptop to a person.
Why does that matter? You need to be able to command people to be strong enough to promote diversity AND women into your workplace.
It's NEVER going to happen unless women do it themselves.
So where does that leave us?
Reason 4: More women (and diversity) means more profits.
Fact check this yourself. More diversity means more diverse opinions, better ideas, deeper loyalty, longer retention of staff, greater reputation as an employer to attract better talent, higher recognition to other people in the industry, access to more global markets, bigger picture thinking and therefore more money.
Simple.
