5 reasons to share with your colleague not using Linkedin yet

For a long time since I had a plan to write about #linkedin . Very often, when I ask a newly acquainted person whether they use Linkedin, many, probably 70% of local acquaintances, say that they don’t use it or they have a profile, but they don't use it at all. It makes sustaining a new connection a bit complicated then, because following them in social media would not fit professional purposes, chatting in multiple apps is also not handy.
Of course, until a person does not understand how useful it is for the profession, one will not spend own time on it. Today I want to “Call for action” by giving 5 reasons to convince your colleague not using Linkedin on How to find something useful and pleasant for yourself in Linkedin?
Firstly, Linkedin is a place of motivated people, it's more about professional development and working connections. When you start filling out your resume-like profile, you are already beginning to understand "yourself", which many people put on the last shelf. This mirror is not suitable for all mentalities by the way. I was once in a meeting for startups, and somebody said that it is better not to indicate an academic background if it is local. It is “not cool” “it reduces your position” “it’s better to show some (unverified) foreign course.” However, I have many colleagues who have worked all over the Africa or from the East all the way to the West or all other directions, and are proud of their own path, including their local education. Of course, you will not “impress” an experienced person. For those who want an investment of 200,000 for their startup, isn't it worthful challenge firstly to get a grant to study?
Secondly, it is a kind of news channel. Organizations and colleagues you follow post all their news on LinkedIn. So it turns out that your feed is formed from the news from the circle of your interests. Your colleague you worked with in Korea might be based in San Salvador now. You read what her company does, you read the professional achievements of your colleague. This is not about the family, not about food and nor natural landscapes. As working day begins, the first thing I do is to read a news. I really like to read these news, articles, announcements, webinars, broadcasts, videos in Linkedin, because they are concentrated in one place. If there is a lot of text and I have a lot to do, then I just listen.
Thirdly, this is the place where you can find almost any well-organised company and its employee you are looking for. So you can reach a person in one step rather than searching through their corporate website or through acquaintances. Borders are erased.
Fourth, you can find a consistent job in LinkedIn. Not consistent ones simply do not reach here, because it does not have such a segment of profiles available. These vacancies are mostly for specialists or managerial level. Here you can ask for an internship opportunity or write a post that you are looking for a job and people will kindly repost you.

Fifth, it is one of those platforms that has not yet been attacked by ads. My e-mail already “jumping” and preventing me from using it normally due to the onslaught of advertising. In Linkedin advertising is still very expensive and not yet sloppy.
In order to motivate somebody completely, show your feed to a person. Visualization is the most effective persuasion tool ??

1 年To continue, due to character limits. 4) I agree with you about posting your education, regardless of where you obtained it. I am most interested in knowing as much about you as I can and in understanding your journey. 5) The lack of borders that you mentioned. That is really key. If you come from Uzbekistan, which is double-landlocked, here is your chance to reach out to the world without travelling. Well, I could go on and on. But, I will leave it that. Thanks very much.

1 年Hello Mushtaree, Very good post. I also am sometimes surprised at the amount of people here who either don't have or don't actively use their LI profiles. As a foreigner (American) who has worked in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and again Uzbekistan now, and as among other things, a mentor for startups, I tell people the following: 1) If you are looking for international team members, ideas, funding, a job, whatever - the first place that any foreigner most likely will check regarding your professional background or for any business purpose, is your LI profile. To see if you really exist, to see if you are who you say you are, to see how determined and organized you are, etc. They are seeking to validate you. 2) Therefore, I always recommend a good LI profile and to have some recommendations. Not too few, not too many. Also, to give some recommendations to show you are not just a taker. But, all should be genuine. 3) It is a chance to show off your English-language skills, if that is necessary for you to do.
