After an afternoon in our family garden I found myself thinking about how hard, yet rewarding, gardening can be. Then, I took to writing these 5 reasons to hire an employee who gardens.
1.???Ability to plan and research- my daughter and I start planning our garden right after the previous year’s last harvest. We take notes on what worked and what didn’t and if our harvest yielded enough vegetables to our liking. The following season, like many gardeners, we start researching…weather patterns, last frost, and even the phase of the moon is all considered in our annual garden. An employee who plans a garden can translate those skills to the job, managing and researching the tools to make the project a success.
2.???Ability to problem solve- have you ever had precious seedlings eaten by squirrels after waiting MONTHS to finally put them in the ground? Gardeners, especially those who prefer organic pest prevention, are constantly problem solving. Which “good†bug will eat which “bad†bug? What’s an affordable yet natural barrier to prevent birds and squirrels from eating crops? An employee who gardens will do their best to solve not only their problems, but the problems of their team members in the best, most effective way.

3.???Ability to remain consistent- this is an easy one. A bountiful garden doesn’t happen without consistent care and watering. An employee who nurtures a garden will nurture a productive team environment.
4.?? Attention to detail- Have you ever noticed your plant wilting in the window? Or the burn marks from the sun? Gardeners pay attention to detail. From the moment the sun comes up, gardeners know how many hours of sun their precious plants will get and the direction the plant's stem will sway as the day goes by. An employee who knows the sun’s reach in their garden will have the skills to assess the atmosphere of your office and do their best to brighten it.
5.???Creativity- A gardener has the foresight to see the beauty of their garden long before their seeds produce fruit. They envision the tomatoes on the branches, the cucumbers hanging from the vines, or the flowers blooming on the ground below the trees. An employee who believes in the future of their garden will see the success of your team long before it comes to fruition.
We all have our own version of a garden-cultivate your best.
