5 Reasons to Create an Editorial Calendar

To keep in line with your goals.

If you’ve decided to start blogging, the first thing you need to do is define what your goals are for your blog. It might sound like a pain to do so, but it’s better than wondering daily “What should I write about today?” Without a plan for your content, you’ll always be scurrying around trying to figure out what to provide readers with on any given day. Think about the big picture and overall goal for your blog.

To provide solutions to specific problems.

Is there a unique problem you’d like to help readers solve? If so, using your blog is an excellent way to provide a solution to subscribers. Readers appreciate simple step-by-step methods they can apply to their situation. Be sure to thoroughly research specific problems that readers are searching for answers to so that your content will stand out from the crowd.

To provide valuable tips and expertise.

If you’re an expert in your field, whether an author, coach, mentor, speaker or other business professional; offering valuable examples and tips to readers is another way to gain and keep readers’ interest in your content. In addition to positioning yourself as an expert in the online world, the content you provide daily, weekly, monthly and yearly will make you the ‘go-to’ person in your subject area – leading your audience to rely on you for information.

To highlight insights on trending topics.

Presenting or updating subscribers with new insights to trending topics and other relevant data encourages them to frequently visit your blog to find out the latest information available. Do your research and narrow your focus to hot topics that are frequently searched for and illustrate their details in a creative way.

To showcase success stories.

In addition to supplying readers with useful tips on how they can better approach or manage their personal or professional lives, incorporate failure or success stories to emphasize your ideas. People want and need proof of a methodology’s success before they consider testing it for themselves, and demonstrating that minimizes their doubts, as well as increases your credibility.
