5 quick tips to build your personal brand
Having a strong personal brand is essential to winning the opportunities you deserve and advancing in your career.
But, between work deadlines, family obligations, and the ever-growing to-do list, this “important but not urgent” project can be easily cast into the “do later” pile.
Here’s the good news about building a strong personal brand:
You don't need a complete overhaul of your life to build a powerful brand.?
In fact, it’s easier than you think and you can weave it into your daily life.
5 Quick tips to build your personal brand
1. Set your intention
Before you go to work in the morning, ask yourself, “What is it that I want to convey to people?” This simple reminder helps your branding become an effortless habit throughout your day.
2. Reframe it as fun
Instead of thinking of personal branding as another dreaded task, find a more energizing angle. For example, “I wonder how people are seeing my brand today. Let's do some experiments.”?

3. Ask for feedback
Ask a friend or colleague what three positive words come to their mind when they think of you. You can even enlist them to be your accountability partner, especially if you need help shifting your brand.?
4. Talk about it
Every time you have a conversation with someone, it gives them information about you. So if you're trying to be seen as strategic, say strategic things as much as you can. For example, “On that project, I think we need to step back and look at it in its totality.”
5. Gamify it
Whatever you want your personal brand to be, see how many times you can naturally work those words and phrases into conversations. Think of it like being in the gym and doing reps. How many reps of “strategic” or “decisive” can I get in today??One of my favorite examples of this last strategy is from my former colleague Carla Harris. During a performance review, Carla was told she wasn’t tough enough.
Discover how she changed people’s perceptions and became known as “tough” (use this if you’ve been pigeonholed and want people to see you differently).
What’s your favorite way to build your personal brand??

6 个月Personal brand changed my life! It literally propelled me from my home country to Australia! It was through LinkedIn back in 2010 I got to know the team closely, work with the senior management and that ultimately got me relocated from Sofia to Sydney - not an easy feat of a jump but I wholeheartedly allocate my success to my personal brand no doubt! 7 个月If you have a 'brand' to build, be sure you have the proper skillsets to back it up. A lot of people think the visuals and dropping buzz words are the end all be all. They are not. Please be prepared to back it up so that while building your brand, your credibility does not take a hit. Very interesting article.
