5 questions for product leaders to unlock stakeholders

Product Leaders suck at understanding stakeholders. Stakeholders don't want features. They want to achieve their goals; their targets.

But you have power. To ask questions. Use it.

5 questions you can ask stakeholders. To uncover their desires:

Before diving into solutions, let's get a clear picture of what they do every day.

Bad Examples:

"??????'???? ???? ???????????? ???? ??????????????????, ???????????" ??

"???????? ?????? ???? ???? ?????????? ???? ??????????, ???????" ??

These questions assume too much and don't allow for a full description of their roles.

Good Example:

?????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????? ????????????????????????????????? ?

2. ???????????? ?????????? ??

It's crucial to know what they're aiming for this year.

Bad Examples:

"??????'???? ?????????????? ???? ?????????? ?????????? ??????????????, ????????'?? ???????" ??

"?????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????? ???? ???????????????????? ???????????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????" ??

These questions are leading and don't allow stakeholders to express their unique goals.

Good Example:

3. ???????? ?????????????????? ???? ?????????? ?????????? ??

We need to understand how their goals tie into the larger company objectives. Only then they are important

Bad Examples:

"???? ???? ?? ???????????????????? ??????????????, ???? ?????? ?????????????? ??, ?? ???????? ???? ?????????????????" ??

They're presumptive and don't explore the relationship between individual and company goals.

Good Example:

Let's find out how they plan to hit their targets.

Bad Examples:

These questions are too narrow and lead the conversation towards specific solutions.

Good Example:

Understanding the hurdles they face is key to providing real solutions.

Bad Examples:

They might miss other critical challenges by focusing on common issues.

Good Example:

When stakeholders talk about features. Ask
