5 Questions with Logan Schmidt
KM Strategies Group
KMSG supports clients working to make their communities better, stronger, and more vibrant places to live.
KMSG is pleased to be working with our newest consultant and long-time colleague, Logan Schmidt! We've asked him to tell us a bit more about himself and why he's excited to work with KMSG clients.
1. In ten words or fewer, how would you describe yourself?
I’m a problem-solver, idealist, co-conspirator, abolitionist, and part-time oenophile.
"The shortest distance between two people is always and forever a story. Impact advisory consulting harnesses the power of heartfelt storytelling to bridge that gap."
2. What led you to impact advisory consulting?
In 2016 and 2017, I served as a Teaching Assistant to a college-in-prison course taught in community with incarcerated men at the Washington State Penitentiary. These incarcerated students, their personal journeys, and their aspirations to create a more humane world not only changed me but also widened my social justice lens. I was reminded anew of how the shortest distance between two people is always and forever a story. Impact advisory consulting harnesses the power of heartfelt storytelling to bridge that gap, influence real change and reform in directly-impacted communities, while at the same time serving to build an organizational legacy of good.

3. What issue areas are you most excited to support at KMSG and how will you use your work in the past to inform them?
Complex social issues require creative solutions. I’m excited to lend my advisory and policy background skills to mass incarceration issues, given my background in criminal justice reform, and I also look forward to consulting on other client issues and projects and international affairs projects. I love to work collaboratively with multitudes of stakeholders to help integrate fresh ideas and strategize bold solutions. As a classically-trained musician, I’m increasingly aware of how this attention to detail and finding harmonies informs and inspires my consulting work. I’m energized about helping to develop such synergies in concert with experts in communications, philanthropy, and digital strategy fields.?
4. How do you recharge outside of work?
I recharge in many ways: exploring new culinary recipes, walking around the city or hiking through nature, and watching or playing soccer!
5. What’s something that people might not initially know about you?
I’m an avid soccer kit collector—I easily own 20+ different kits of national teams, European and American club teams, and original kits from the 1950s/1960s!
