Welcome to this week’s Fast 5!?
You may have heard me say it before but I’m going to say it again, life is a direct reflection of the quality of questions that you ask yourself.?
And this rings true in all areas of your life.?
One thing I often tell clients is that if they aren’t happy with how their people are completing tasks, the rate of progress on a project, or someone’s overall attitude at work… they need to be asking better questions.?
The only way to get the answers you are looking for is to ask better questions.?
Now, knowing which questions is a skill that is developed over time and I don’t expect you to see the impact this can have on you or your team immediately.?
But below I have compiled 5 of my favourite questions to ask to improve your team’s connection and build a better culture.?
- What is one thing you are thankful for/ or excited for? Expressing gratitude has been shown to have so many benefits. People who express gratitude regularly are seen to have lower rates of depression and stress, which as leads we want to limit in the workplace. People who express gratitude also had higher levels of happiness and as I’ve said before, happiness is the greatest hack to productivity and profitability.?
- What is one thing you could do this week to help someone else? This gets our teams thinking collaboratively and often gets them to put their hand up to help out others in the team. It also gets them to acknowledge their strengths, no matter what area of life it is in.?
- What is one thing you would like to learn or get better at this week? We always want our employees looking for opportunities to grow within their job and their life. Continued growth helps lead to greater satisfaction as we allow ourselves to experience more flow in the opportunities we take to grow.
- What is one thing you can do this week to fill your cup? We don’t want our energy getting out of whack. So the activities that fill your team's cup might look totally different from week to week. For people who often work in high stress situations, or deal a lot with numbers and negotiating, they might need something more leaning towards the feminine energy or nurture such as art, meditation, surfing, or hiking. For the people who are the team's cheerleaders, nurturers, and emotional supporters they might need more masculine energy to fill their cup and could benefit from boxing, axe throwing, or something more fast paced. Only your team members will know what they need more of in their week to feel balanced.?
- Is there currently standing in the way of you having an epic week? Getting your team to identify potential roadblocks allows you to plan around them, or to highlight where there might be bottlenecks in processes. As Branson says, “hire people better than you and then get out of the way!” Your job as the boss should be to remove as many roadblocks as possible so that your team can work to their best ability.?
I usually like using these questions at the first meeting of the week to set intentions, get everybody in the right headspace and set the pace for the week ahead.?
Which of these questions resonates with you the most??
