What's the biggest misconception your colleagues have about you and why do you think they have it? This question helps you gauge the confidence and self-awareness of the candidate. How would this job advance your career? This question will help you identify candidates who are genuinely interested and qualified for the role and also if their take on the role is in line with your requirements. If you got hired, love everything about the job and are paid the salary you asked for, what kind of offer from another company would you consider? Asked at the right time in the interview this question will help you to understand what drives the candidate and their motivation. If asked at the later stages in the interview, when the candidate is more comfortable it can help to understand what motivates the candidate. Tell us about your past experience when things didn't go the way you wanted – like a project that didn't turn out as as expected or a promotion you expected but did not get. A simple question that has the potential to unearth the personality traits of the applicant. A candidate's answers will usually fall into one of the 3 categories: blame, self disparagement or opportunity for growth.
