5 Qualities to Look for in Employees

5 Qualities to Look for in Employees

There are certain qualities that I look for in my facade maintenance and construction employees, but they are important for all employees in a successful business. I am sharing some of the characteristics that I find especially important in my team.

Adaptability

The ability to adapt to change and learn new things quickly is essential in today's fast-paced work environment. Things change in the course of a project, so those who work with me need to be able to make those necessary changes. They must be ready to adjust to every challenge thrown their way.

Team player

In construction, almost all the work is teamwork, but many fields are also like that. Almost all the jobs that my team does requires more than one person working on them. On even larger projects, we may have people from different specialties who must work together. If people were not able to happily work with others and listen to them, then projects would be a disaster, and we would never be able to complete them.??

Reliability

I want people on my team that I know will show up each and every day. A skilled worker is only good if they show up. The people on my team are people that I am constantly relying on them. When they say they will complete something, I need to know that they will complete it. Coming in each day, doing the work, and communicating what is going on goes a huge way in my book.?

Ethics and integrity

My employees should be honest, trustworthy, and respectful toward others. I need people I know I can trust to do their work and do it properly. If my employees do not have a sense of morals, I cannot trust them. Construction has real-world consequences that can be serious. I want the consequences of my company's work only to be positive. For example, I want Thompson Exterior to be why a building no longer has water damage issues, and not the opposite. My employees should feel responsible for their work and take no shortcuts.

Skills and qualifications

At the end of the day, an employee should have the necessary skills and qualifications to perform the job. It is great if they have got a perfect attitude but if they are unable to do the job it is not really worth anything. It is up to you to decide what skills and qualifications a person must have prior to joining your team and what you can teach them once they have joined.

This is not an exhaustive list but a way to help give you some ideas of what you should look for in employees. As a leader, it is on you to decide what your company needs and the types of people that you want to hire.?
