1. The Myth Debunked: Third-Party Apps Won’t Hurt Your Reach Let me clear this up right away. Using third-party apps like CapCut or InShot to edit your videos won’t negatively impact your Instagram reach. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, addressed this in a recent video. So, go ahead and use your favorite editing tools without worrying about being penalized.
2. Watermarks Are the Real Problem Now, here’s the catch: Instagram will deprioritize your videos if they have watermarks, like the TikTok logo. Instagram wants content that feels native to its platform. So, if you’re repurposing videos, make sure you remove any watermarks before uploading them to Instagram.
3. Invest in Paid Editing Tools to Remove Watermarks Here’s my advice—invest in paid versions of editing apps. Free versions often leave watermarks, and that can hurt your reach. I personally use CapCut, which costs around $50 per year. It’s a small investment that will make a big difference in keeping your content professional and watermark-free.
4. Use Cropping or Exporting Features If you can’t avoid watermarks entirely, no worries! You can crop them out if they’re small and located in a corner. Some apps also let you export videos without the watermark. Tools like SnapTik make it easy to remove watermarks from TikTok videos.
5. Why Watermarks Matter for Instagram’s Algorithm Here’s why this matters: Instagram’s algorithm prioritizes content that feels fresh and original. If your video looks like it was made for another platform (especially if it has a watermark), Instagram won’t push it to a broader audience. I always tell my clients that your reach is everything, especially if you're promoting your business or brand.
So, feel free to use whatever editing tools work best for you, whether it’s CapCut, InShot, or Adobe Rush. Just be mindful of watermarks.
