5 Proven Tactics for Creating Positive Business Relationships that Help You Flourish

What does a good business relationship mean to you? How can they help you flourish?

You probably have many people in your professional network who are more like contacts than true partners. We all do. These people are valuable and important in some way, but they are not the ones we think of when we talk about our close collaborators.

We feel happiest and fulfilled at work when we connect deeply with others, whether they are our colleagues, clients, or mentors. Helping each other flourish and find happiness in our work transforms our work environment.

Here are some tips for creating deeper and more meaningful connections with the people who matter most to you professionally.

I know from working as a sales manager in a challenging business that the relationships I treasured most, and that brought me the most happiness and satisfaction were those where we worked seamlessly to meet common business goals.

Reach Out First

Don’t wait for someone to contact you, contact them first. Reaching out first is a great way to improve your business relationships.

By connecting with those who are important to you professionally, you show that you care, create a deeper rapport, and open up opportunities for collaboration.

It doesn’t have to be face-to-face. You can use your phone or email to communicate with anyone in the world. Use this technology to your advantage and stay in touch with your professional contacts.

One of my favorite tactics was to pick up the phone and say. “I’ve got this great idea for our upcoming promotion. Give me a call so we can discuss it. When they call back you instantly engage in a brain-storming session that often results in even better ideas.

Don’t wait for others to make the first move; make time to work on your business relationships.

Listen Well

Are you a good listener, a real listener? Pay attention the next time you talk to a colleague, a client, or a mentor. Connect with what they are saying emotionally. Look for their body language to understand what they mean. Ask many questions. Show them that they matter by repeating what they tell you.

Make sure you both understand what has been discussed and that you both agree on the action you want to take.

Sometimes our egos get involved and we need to take care to keep them in check.

I remember a case where one of my business partners was committed to a new hire. He wouldn’t listen to my concerns. He thought he’d found the perfect fit for a team leader.

Instead of getting into an argument with them, I decided to step back and allow the situation to unfold until he finally came to realize why I had those concerns.

Because business can get aggressive as we push to meet our objectives, my boss wasn’t happy with my strategy. However, because I stepped back my partner was able to come to me without feeling like he was being made wrong.

It created a new level of respect between us. We both became better listeners and we both flourished professionally and personally.

Share Positive Feedback/Celebrate

Remind people of the successful projects you’ve done together and thank them for the value they contributed.

Remind people of the successful projects you’ve done together and thank them for the value they bring to your work. Sharing positive feedback and gratitude makes your bond stronger, increases positivity, and shows your professional contacts how much you appreciate them.

Meaningful business relationships need effort and commitment. To build and keep deep connections with others, you need to communicate actively, understand, compromise, and support each other. Through this ongoing work, you can make your business relationships stronger, trust more, and enjoy work more.

My favorite way to share feedback and success was to leave behind the work environment and head to a good coffee shop where we could chat without the constant buzz and interruptions of the office environment.

Figure out your own unique way to do this and you will be rewarded with a deeper, happier relationship.?

?Find Ways to Be Mutually Beneficial

One of the best ways to build stronger business relationships is to find ways to be mutually beneficial to each other. This means that you look for opportunities to help each other achieve your goals, solve your problems, or learn new skills. By being mutually beneficial, you show that you value the other person’s interests and needs and that you are willing to invest in the relationship.

You can be mutually beneficial in many ways, such as:

1.??? Sharing your expertise, insights, or resources with the other person

2.??? Introducing the other person to someone who can help them or benefit them

3.??? Giving the other person honest and constructive feedback

4.??? Recommending the other person for a job, a project, or a recognition

5.??? Supporting the other person’s initiatives, ideas, or causes

By finding ways to be mutually beneficial, you can create a win-win situation for both of you, and strengthen your trust, respect, and loyalty.

Build Trust Through Honesty and Reliability

Trust is the foundation of any strong relationship, whether it is personal or professional. Trust means that you believe in the other person’s integrity, competence, and goodwill. Trust also means that you are willing to be vulnerable and share your thoughts, feelings, and needs with the other person.

One of the best ways to build trust is to be honest and reliable. This means that you:

1.??? Tell the truth, even when it is hard or uncomfortable

2.??? Keep your promises and follow through on your commitments

3.??? Admit your mistakes and apologize when you are wrong

4.??? Avoid making yourself right and the other person wrong when their idea or concept fails.

5.??? Respect the other person’s privacy and boundaries

6.??? Avoid gossiping, lying, or hiding information

By being honest and reliable, you show that you are trustworthy and that you value the other person’s trust. This can increase your mutual respect, understanding, and happiness.

There is nothing like a tight working relationship to help each other weather the storms that inevitably arise in high-pressure business environments.

Conclusion

Take a moment now, to think back over the tactics mentioned in this article and rate your ability between 1-5 for each idea. Congratulate yourself on the ones you rated highest in. Then draw up an action plan to improve in the areas you scored lowest.

By doing so, you will not only improve your work performance but also your happiness and fulfillment. Remember, your business relationships are not just transactions, they are partnerships.

Treat them with respect, care, and appreciation, and you will experience a positive, happy, and valuable sense of accomplishment all elements that allow us to flourish.
