You’ve got a great idea, but a messy, complicated message that pushes people away. Here’s how to fix that…
Communication shapes our world. From the messages that motivate social movements, to the conversations that form personal relationships, the ability to clearly convey ideas and connect with others is essential. Yet in the digital age, capturing someone's focused attention
I explored this question in depth during a recent SPARKED podcast interview with marketing expert Ben Guttmann . During our conversation, Ben shared insights from over 20 years of experience helping global brands craft compelling communications that inspire action.
Here are 5 ideas for simplifying your messaging so it captures attention and inspires action:
1. Get to know your audience intimately. The best communicators put themselves in their audience's shoes. Before crafting your message, connect with real people
2. Identify the core human benefit
3. Embrace limitations to spark breakthroughs. Rather than viewing constraints as creativity-killers, reframe them as springboards for innovation. Give yourself tight parameters around formatting, length or tools. You may be amazed what creative magic emerges.??
4. Eliminate needless friction at every step. Be ruthlessly focused on streamlining your audience's journey
5. Keep refining until you achieve crisp clarity. Simplicity takes work! Continue tightening your language and sharpening your focus until only the most essential elements remain. Remember - less is often more when it comes to resonant communication. Choose clear and concise over quirky and confusing.

I hope these ideas spark your own communication breakthroughs. As you shape clear, compelling messages, stay true to understanding your audience, speaking to their needs and guiding them forward with care.

10 个月Love that eliminating friction is one of the ideas. I’ve been thinking a lot about friction lately, and working to eliminate it. In tasks—how can I make them easier? Noticing how I move through my day, and paying attention to what I can eliminate, how can I organize things to eliminate friction? It certainly makes sense to consider friction in how we communicate. Communicating in a way that builds relationships. Extra words create friction for the reader or listener. One speaker I know focuses on “no extra words.” Excellent post, Jonathan. Thank you.
